We are looking for an exceptional, dynamic leader to continue our success in Personal Lines!

Successfully lead a large team of underwriters and underwriting tech’s to meet the collective goals of the personal lines organization. Complete oversight of and responsibility for the growth, profit, profile, retention and business written by the department. Lines of business include auto, home, dwelling fire and personal umbrella liability in MA and CT. Partner closely with the leadership team on the rate setting and strategic decisions of the organization.

Responsibilities:   

 Assist in the development, management and execution of the Personal Lines Underwriting strategy

Effectively hire, train and retain a high performing team of Underwriting Managers, Team Managers, Underwriters and Underwriter Tech's.

Create and implement profitable underwriting strategies in concert with other departments. Manage and administer policies, procedures and practices to drive profitable growth, produce the highest profit and lowest loss/expense ratios. Constantly seek ways to improve business processes and workflow

Assist in the preparation of salary and expense budget, controlling expenses accordingly. Manage and executes daily business objectives with reference to budget, customer service, production, and business plan objectives

Partner with Marketing in the management of agency force including day to day issues and opportunities to annual planning activities. Develop extremely close, effective relationship with owned agency.

Review and approve potential book rolls, groups and new agency appointments. 

Conduct performance appraisals, recommends salary adjustments, promotions and effective succession planning and retention of team.

Partner with Claim on identification of negative trends and desirability of risks. 

Keep abreast of regulatory rulings, industry trends and legal developments which affect underwriting practices.

Collaborate on the setting of underwriting guidelines and practices. Authorize exceptions to underwriting rules and monitors those of staff.

Measure underwriting effectiveness through monthly reporting of key metrics and processes.

Collaborate closely with operations and Service Center on end to end underwriting and services processes to ensure efficient, profitable and accurate outcomes.

Collaborate with AVP of PL Product and SVP of PL on rate decisions

Demonstrate ability to plan, organize and control work environment     Is very collaborative and works well with others within the business unit and across the organization

Confers with agents and brokers regarding underwriting policies and procedures.

Requirements:·        

Bachelors degree and intimate working knowledge of the Personal Lines Property and Casualty insurance industry including underwriting practices, pricing, product, and competitive analysis
·        
Demonstrated knowledge of Massachusetts P & C underwriting principles and relevant Massachusetts
statutory and regulatory environment is essential, including the MA residual market mechanism.
·        
Experience working with PL products in CT or other states
        
In depth experience developing, leading and managing a highly qualified underwriting team.

Ability to develop strong relationships with independent agents is critical
      
Superior diplomacy, oral and written communication skills is a must.

The ideal candidate will have at least five years of management experience and the ability to access and interpret management information.
