Job Description

Mission or Goal of Unit: The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Metabolism manages the Center for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU, the region's most comprehensive program for children with diabetes and other endocrine disorders. The center offers medical care, clinical trials, medical nutrition therapy, diabetes education, nurse navigator, social work, psychological support, all in one convenient location.

Chief Purpose of this position: Candidates should be eager to advance theiracademic career in a collegial atmosphere in a growing Children's Hospital. The Division is home to a robust clinicalservice, an accredited Fellowship Program in Pediatric Endocrinology andMetabolism, and a successful multidisciplinary research program in childhoodobesity and clinical trials in type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The VirginiaCommonwealth University (VCU) is the largest and most diverse university in thestate and provides support for clinical research through the Office of ClinicalTrials in the Department of Pediatrics and the Center for Clinical andTranslational Research (CCTR) which is part of a national CTSA consortium andis supported by award No. UL1TR000058 from the National Institutes of Health'sNational Center for Advancing Translational Science. The Children's Hospital ofRichmond at VCU is a stand-alone children's hospital with more than 50subspecialists, a level IV NICU and a level 1 trauma center. We serve diversepopulations throughout the Commonwealth.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Teaching: Faculty member willhave teaching responsibilities in the area of Pediatric Endocrinology. Faculty will provide guidance and mentorshipto Residents, Chief Residents, and Fellows when applicable.
  • Research: Faculty member willhave working knowledge in basic research methods and be able to participate inclinical, translational, and/or outcomes research.
  • Service: Faculty member willserve on departmental or School of Medicine level committees when appropriate,as well as professional service through journal review, conferencepresentations, etc.
  • Clinical: Faculty member willserve as a Pediatric Endocrinologist for the Departments of Pediatrics.

Required Qualifications:
  • Board certified or board eligible in Pediatric Endocrinology
  • Experience with clinical care of patients
  • Demonstrated experience working in and supporting a diverse faculty and staff
  • Experience creating a positive learning
