About the Role:
We’re looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to join us towards building out our accounting function. This is the Company’s first payroll hire and represents a tremendous opportunity for the right candidate. This person will set the blueprint for the Company’s payroll processes and procedures in addition to keeping the Company in compliance with all payroll rules and regulations. The position will report directly to the Controller.
The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in payroll and knowledge of wage and hour laws. Furthermore the right candidate has worked for a rapidly scaling company and implemented controls around the payroll process. We are looking for an individual who is willing to roll up their sleeves and own the day to day payroll responsibilities.
What You'll Do:
Oversee all aspects of US multi-state payroll processing for exempt and non-exempt employees (for about 200 employees and growing), including bi-weekly payroll, manual checks, employee changes, terminations, etc.
Process Ad hoc payrolls (Bonuses, commissions)
Develop and implement payroll processing compliance, standardization, continuous improvement, promoting best practices, data privacy regulations and data integrity.
Maintain payroll compliance with Federal, State and Local laws and regulations.
Manage third-party vendors and the preparation, analysis and maintenance of all payroll related reports, including governmental and regulatory filings.
Support Accounting to ensure all payroll activities are posted to the general ledger and payroll liability accounts are reconciled timely and accurately, including month-end, year-end, bonus and PTO accruals.
Lead year-end processes to ensure W-2 accuracy and timeliness.
Respond to employee inquiries and serve as liaison between employee and third party providers; address issues including leaves of absence, benefits changes and overtime.
Work with internal partners in the HR department to facilitate and improve the payroll processes, including leave of absence, employee benefits, 401k, FSA.
Manage functional projects, payroll and time and attendance systems upgrades, testing and implementation.
Assist with the design and implementation of internal control measures to ensure proper payment authorizations and segregation of duties are observed.
Assist with compliance matters such as multi-state tax withholdings, 401K audits, workers compensation audits & external financial audits
Review and reconcile all relocation related expenses. Prepare year-end summary.
5+ years of multi-state payroll experience and knowledgeable of wage and hour laws
Payroll system knowledge
