Job Description

Title: Pathologist Assistant

Location: Arlington, NY

Shift: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm

Job responsibilities

Pathologist Assistants prepare surgical specimens by examination and dissection for diagnosis by pathologists. Works with frozen section tissue and intraoperative consultation requests.

Additional responsibilities of the Pathologist Assistant include:

Duties may include but are not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Obtains and reviews the patient's chart and other clinical data.
  • Performs frozen sections and other intra-operative consultations.
  • Ensures appropriate specimen accessioning, pertinent clinical information and studies.
  • Performs dissection, description, and histological sampling of a full range of surgical specimens.
  • Photographs all pertinent gross specimens.
  • Creates manifests and requisitions required for BRL/GenPath processing.

Job Requirements

Successful candidates for the Pathologist Assistant will have a bachelor's degree in pathology assistant program that is NAACLS accredited.

Additional requirements of the Pathologist Assistant role include:

  • ASCP Pathologist Assistant Certification
  • New York State Pathologist Assistant license or is eligible for the New York State PA license OR has performed the duties of a pathologist assistant for two of the five years prior to 11/28/17
  • Preferred qualifications include: Master's Degree
