REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor?s degree in related field. Certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology as a Pathologists Assistant, PA (ASCP)
Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Surgical Pathology Gross Room. Prepares, describes, and dissects human surgical tissues. Supervises, organizes, and improves workflow, as well as communicate with staff, management, and senior leadership regarding patient cases.
Specific Job Related Duties
? Will be cross-trained in Autopsy and Surgical Pathology.
? Assure correct accessioning of all surgical specimens, dictation and complete dissection and complete dissection of all tissue specimens, selection and submission of tissue sections for microscopic examination, preparation of tissue cassettes for automated processing, photographing gross specimens and completion of photomicroscopy duties.
? Prepare frozen section, electron microscopic sections, and gross specimens as teaching specimens.
? Assist in quality management programs.
? Oversee maintenance of equipment, laboratory supplies and work areas.
? Assist with resident and student teaching.
? Must be able to communicate effectively with families, physicians and other hospital staff.
? Adhere to internal controls established for department.
? Perform related duties as required.
Completion of a NAACLS accredited Pathologists? Assistant program preferred.
