Job Description: The Patent Agent will be responsible for prosecuting the patent applications in the U.S. and directing foreign patent prosecution and act as a liaison with the client, on life science matters including recombinant gene technology in the crop science and pharmaceutical industries. The employee must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment with time-sensitive materials, and maintain strict confidentiality due to the nature of the position.

Essential Job Duties:
•Provide technical expertise in recombinant cell technology, such as molecular cloning, antibody genetic crossing, microscopy, plasmid construction, protein purification, bioinformatics, and cell cultures
•File applications
•Liaise with clients regarding the domestic and foreign patent application process
•Manage patent practices, including patent applications, preparation, prosecution, etc.
•Communicate with clients to ensure applications are filed on time and deadlines are met
•Perform due diligence and research all related patents to determine if there are any obstacles in securing a patent or practicing technology
•Manage the patent application process and communicate with the USPTO as requested
•Conduct and participate in client meetings regarding patent research and application processes
•Identify and review ongoing issues that might affect the patent process
•Manage the patent docket and communicate dates and deadlines with attorneys and clients

Minimum Requirements:
•Ph.D. in life sciences or related field required
•Registration with the USPTO required
•5 years of experience as a patent agent preferred
•Ability to travel when necessary
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Ability to juggle multiple priorities and manage multiple clients
•Must be able to perform all essential duties
