The mission of Correctional Managed Care is to address the healthcare needs of underserved patient populations within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD).
JOB SUMMARY:Provides eye care including eye exams, glasses and emergency care.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: - Performs eye examinations to diagnose vision problems and pathological conditions of the eye.
- Tests patient's visual acuity, depth and color perception and the ability to focus and coordinate the eyes.
- Prescribes and fits eye glasses and contact lens.
- Refers patients to UTMB physicians as appropriate.
- Adjusts and repairs broken glasses.
- Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
- Performs related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: - Ability to interface with a variety of individuals.
- Work requires attention to detail and manual dexterity.
- Proficient in operating slit lamp, retinoscope, phoropter, projector chart and slides, ophthalmoscope, lensometer, keratometer and various tools to repair/adjust eyeglasses.
EQUIPMENT:Slit lamp, retinoscope, phoropter, projector chart and slides, ophthalmoscope, lensometer and keratometer.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/LOCATION:Work environment is located within the confines of a prison, jail or juvenile detention center. Security clearance is required; pre-employment drug testing is also required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:Doctor of Optometry degree and one (1) year of direct patient contact. Texas Optometrist License required.
Salary is commensurate with years of relevant work experience.
