Job Description

Total Safety is looking for an Operations Manager - Fire LOB (Line of Business) to join their safety conscious team! The Operations Manager - Fire LOB (Line of Business) is the front-line management position crucial to servicing Total Safety customers while driving safety, efficiency, and profitability throughout the operational organization.

The Operations Manager - Fire LOB will be responsible for managing all aspects of fire protection projects, including planning, execution, and coordination of resources, to ensure the successful delivery of services to our clients. The position manages & evaluates department employees & equipment utilized to perform service which may include but not limited to inspecting, testing, repairing, consulting, layout or detailed design of life safety equipment, fire detection systems, gas detection systems, foam systems, dry chemical systems, gaseous fire suppression systems, water-based fire protection systems and aids-to-navigation systems in the oil and gas industry. The Operations Manager - Fire LOB is also responsible for assisting upper management with annual and long-term business plans that address financial forecasting of projected revenues as well as capital expenditures and operational issues contingent on meeting the company's mission, goals, and objectives.

Essential Duties:

  • Lead and manage the Fire Line of Business, including project planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and performance tracking, to achieve operational excellence
    and meet business objectives.
  • Coordinate with fire protection Engineering/Design operations through effective management of direct reports.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, engineering, and field operations, to ensure seamless project execution and timely delivery of services to
    clients.
  • Evaluate and manage staffing levels, vehicles, tools, and related assets to ensure customer satisfaction while developing a strong delivery team.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of standardized processes, procedures, and quality assurance measures to ensure consistency and compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards. Implement continuous improvement and training program for the team.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies, to promote collaboration, resolve issues, and
    address client needs effectively.
  • Assist strategic account managers and operational staff with estimating and proposing Engineering/Design related services.
  • Partner with AMs to assist with promoting and selling Engineering services through a strategic approach
  • Assist with resolving external operational problems to ensure client satisfaction while maintaining growth and profitability standards within the organization.
  • Assist with resolving internal disputes and operational issues among all Lines of Business to insure growth of Total Safety accounts.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.


Skills and Experience:

  • Seven (7) years of field experience in industrial fire protection, petrochemical, oil refinery or related industry design as well as three
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience.
  • Can substitute 12 years of experience in fire protection design/engineering for bachelor's degree.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of Total Safety products and services.
  • Must have in depth technical knowledge of fire and safety systems in industrial facilities.
  • Must have excellent customer relationship skills.


Educational Requirements:

  • Education: High School diploma or GED. Bachelor's degree in science or technical
    area strongly encouraged.


Required Licenses or Specific Training:

  • PE license preferred.
  • Must have a valid driver's license from state of residence and valid proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Must possess good driving record and be insurable for Total Safety vehicle insurance if driving
    company truck.
  • Must be willing travel to customers site and available for travel for short
    and long-term out-of-town projects.
  • Must obtain TWIC Card and other safety related badges/certifications as needed.

  • PC skills and knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software.
  • Possesses critical reasoning skills and can apply them effectively in stressful situations.
  • Displays confidence and accepts the challenge and high degree of responsibility entailed in this position.

  • Demonstrated commitment to safety.

  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
  • Must have excellent judgment, be able to prioritize decisions and act quickly in the best interest of organization.
  • Self-motivation is essential.
  • Acts to prevent conditions from getting out of hand or to resolve an issue as they see fit and reports immediately.
  • Is preauthorized to cope with issues and then report the results of their actions right away.
  • Understands that safety is priority and that they have the authority to shut down the job if potential hazards to people and the environment are not mitigated.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, knell, or bend. Uses hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • Combination of office, shop, indoor and outdoor industrial environments.
  • May be frequently exposed to cold, hot, wet, humid, outside weather conditions and vibration.
    Works in customer environment.
  • May be exposed to high pressure, chemicals, and traffic. The noise level in work environments is usually moderate.


Complexity of Duties and Decisions:

  • Must be prepared to handle a variety of situations in changing environments. Follows all guidelines for the company pertaining to safety requirements.
  • Must remain calm while working in difficult and stressful situations and stay focused while carrying out the functions of the position.
