Openstack Cloud Engineer ) has a handful of Openstack based Private Clouds that are managed by Rackspace. These Private Clouds support high profile systems like our Customer Website and will ultimately host most of our customer acquiring and servicing channels. The Cloud Ops team works hand and hand with our Rackspace counterparts to ensure the clouds are operating effectively, that the Openstack services are supporting the business needs and on engineering upgrades to the Openstack environments. The Openstack Cloud Engineering role provides the technical leadership to accomplish these objectives.
Expert level knowledge of all the Openstack services: Nova, Glance, Keystone, Cinder, Neutron, Nova-Network, Swift, and Horizon.
Proficient with Linux operating systems, networking protocols, storage devices and the security wrapped around each of them.
Ability to read, interpret, and debug advanced Python code.
Ability to contribute to interdepartmental discussions on matters of technical architecture.
Must demonstrate previous collaboration with vendors and the broader tech community on implementing solutions
• JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project team engagement: Work with dozens of project teams to understand the technical needs of the project as it pertains to running in a cloud and guide them on the best approach. Then work with the Rackspace team to review recommendations and ensure it gets implemented properly.
Onboarding new applications: Review new application onboarding requests to ensure the requests are reasonable, that the compute nodes have the capacity to handle the workload and determine if the proper flavor of guest VMs are being used.
Collaborate with the Rackspace Engineers to review enhancements and upgrades to the Openstack ecosystem.
Ensure all solutions meet Barclays strict security standards.
Setup and use monitoring tools to track service availability and system capacity.
Resolve matters escalated by Level 1 and 2 support staff. High Severity issues may require attention after normal business hours.
Facilitate Root Cause Analysis sessions after Production incidents occur
