Situation: Blessing Hospital is a 307-bed regional
referral center serving 300,000 people in West-Central Illinois, Northeast
Missouri, and Southeast Iowa. It
operates the largest and most comprehensive behavioral medicine service in the
region, including secure inpatient units for children and adults. The entire region is classified by the
federal government as a Health Care Professional Shortage Area for Mental
Health, so patient volumes per psychiatrist are high. High energy and through put levels are
essential, as are a willingness to see patients both as inpatients and outpatients,
and on site as well as at several other contracted mental health agencies in
the area. Blessing's Behavioral Health
Service is staffed by seven psychiatrists, two of which are part-time. All are Board Certified in General and Adult
as well as any area of fellowship training they have completed. Four work exclusively with adults and the
other three concentrate on children and adolescents. All psychiatrists participate in a single call
schedule, so it is imperative that all physicians are willing to see the full
age range of patients. We are looking to add a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
to join our group to help with in patient rounding and outpatient visits.

The medical staff of Blessing

  • Hospital includes physicians in all specialties and subspecialties of medicine
  • and surgery with the exception of pediatric sub-specialists. The Hospital offers a full array of
  • diagnostic and treatment options as well as a full complement of modern medical
  • technology. The Hospital and its
  • affiliated medical clinics are fully electronic in documentation and
  • recordkeeping, and secure, remote access is available for attending
  • physicians. In 2011, the Blessing Health
  • System was named one of the 100 Best Places to Work in Health Care by Modern
  • Healthcare magazine.
