Assess the physical and psychosocial status of clients by means of interview, health history, physical examination and diagnostic tests. Interprets the data and, develops and implements therapeutic plans. Provides clinical support, education, and staff development, case management and supervisory functions for pain management, primarily in the hospital setting. Educates/mentors nurses and other clinicians in evidenced-based pain management to assists with post-hospital discharge care planning. Provides leadership in ensuring excellent patient care services, coordinates educational and outreach services, leads quality improvement initiatives, monitors patient satisfaction surveys (PRC), and advocates for best practices in pain management. Proactively identifies opportunities to improve the patient and family experience of care to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of available resources. Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and use of measures that ensure team effectiveness in improving patient quality, service, and resource use.
This position services the following populations: adult and geriatric


  1. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner’s program
  2. Licensed in the State of Virginia as a Nurse Practitioner
  3. Possess a Master’s Degree in nursing or a related field
  4. Minimum of five years direct patient careexperiencerequired
  5. Experience in staff development, education, or precepting nurses and other clinicians
  6. Management and leadership experience
  7. Practical experience in internal medicine, geriatrics, or oncology preferred
  8. Demonstrates sills in clinical quality improvement and resource management
  9. Prescriptive authority in State of Virginia
  10. Current BCLS certification
