Full Job Description
Full Time - Nights - 10 hour shifts

Primary Function: The Nurse Manager in a collaborative relationship with the Vice President of Patient Care Services is responsible for the planning of clinical services to assure efficient and appropriate delivery of care to the unit's specific patient population. The Nurse Manager will adhere to organizational philosophies and assure that quality care is delivered in a cost-effective manner. The Nurse Manager will be responsible for the 24-hour delivery of nursing care in the department.

Responsibilities:

Assures that quality customer focused care is delivered to the patients in the department.

Evaluates and assures that appropriate patient flow is occurring in the department. Work with other hospital managers to expedite patient flow through the department and/or facility.

Assesses and maintains appropriate staffing patterns to deliver quality patient care.

Identifies staff educational needs. Assures that there appropriate competencies to assure staff educational needs are met.

Actively works with the Vice President/Supervisor/Medical Director to assure that the hospital is able to respond to community disasters.

Develops and adheres to an annual operational budget. With input from staff, physicians, and the Medical Director, if applicable, prepares a yearly capital budget.

Investigates and assesses all customer complaints, problems, and incidents. Takes appropriate corrective action to resolve and/or assure complaint is not reoccurring.

Facilitates and evaluates inter-shift communication and cooperation. Plans and meets periodically with the Vice President for the purpose of setting unit goals and objectives.

Develops a Performance Improvement Program to monitor the quality and effectiveness of care delivered in the department. Assures the Joint Commission standards are met.

Actively supports and communicates the goals of Patient Care Services in a concise clear manner. Holds staff accountable to meet goals of Patient Care Services.

Serves as Role models professional development. Responsible for own professional development, setting goals and striving to achieve them through available resources. Maintains management competencies through attending seminars, in-services and/or reading journals.

Develops agendas and schedules monthly staff meetings for all shifts. Collaborates with the Vice President and, if applicable the Medical Director, to develop agendas and facilitate departmental staff meetings.

Informs the Vice President of any patient issues, unusual activities, staff concerns or unit problems. Prepares and submits any required reports.

Provides Human resource management of staff.

Performs all other job-related duties as assigned.

Job Qualification:

Master's degree required or Bachelor's degree along with enrollment in a Master's program with job related experience may be considered. RI State Nursing Licensure required as is graduation from an accredited nursing program. BLS required. A minimum of three years of job-related experience required; five years of job-related experience preferred. Certification in administration or related specialty is preferred and required within two years of hire.
