WCSH 6 in Portland, Maine, one of the strongest NBC affiliates in the country and a TEGNA station, is looking for an experienced, motivated leader to continue the ratings and journalistic success of an engaged, passionate news team. NEWS CENTER is the largest broadcast news organization in the state and produces news content for all three television markets. As a statewide operation, you will also direct our team of journalists at WLBZ 2, our sister station in Bangor, Maine. The next news director will maintain our strong belief that our role as journalists is to hold the powerful accountable and be a voice for the voiceless. This person will understand how to coach and develop young talent, while valuing the knowledge and experience from the veteran staff. This person must have solid journalistic judgement, a keen eye for talent, and the ability to maintain a positive culture where creativity thrives. This person should also have a passion for evolving Local TV news. You’ll live and work in one of the most beautiful areas in the country: Maine, the way life should be. TEGNA is the current Broadcasting and Cable Magazine’s “Station Group of the Year.”

Responsibilities:

  • Strategically lead and manage this statewide information center
  • Oversee all on-air & digital news content
  • Work closely with the news team to produce relevant, high quality, content that sets WCSH 6 and WLBZ 2 apart from their competition
  • Collaborate daily on content for web site, social media, mobile, and apps
  • Foster an environment of creativity, innovation, teamwork, and high ethical standards
  • Lead a culture that owns breaking news and weather coverage on all of our multimedia platforms, and inspire and coach superior storytelling
  • Must be a strategic thinker, strong communicator, collaborator, community-minded, with hands-on journalistic experience and a driving passion to serve all audiences and win in the digital world
  • Interact with department heads at both stations in a mutual effort to achieve station goals and to extend our brand and reach

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in broadcast journalismpreferred with a proven track record of news leadership experience
  • Demonstrated successful innovative leadership, communication, and both staff and product development skills
  • Solid understanding of social media and digital platforms
  • Exceptional organizational skills suited for a fast-paced environment
