Job Description

SUMMARY

The New Product Development and Introduction (NPD&I) Manager leads a team of engineers and technicians that are responsible for new product development, verification, and validation as well as product introduction defined as the transition from design to production. This is a transformational position that will lead the implementation of standard product processes through new product introduction ensuring smooth transitions from design to production, including standard manufacturing work instructions and pilot programs. This individual interacts with a variety of departments including Project Management, R&D, Solutions Architects, Manufacturing, Life Cycle Engineering, Sourcing, Account Management and Sales to ensure products are launched and completed on schedule. The position allows the manager to use their previous functional experience to identify opportunities or trends and make recommendations for process improvements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Leadership:
  • Provide leadership and coaching to all team members
  • Allocate team resources on a dynamic basis to meet internal and external customer needs
  • Provide an escalation point within NPD&I
  • Oversee the product development processes followed by the company, recommend improvements in those practices and implement approved changes
  • Participate in the Customer Opportunity and Product pipeline activities as needed
  • Work directly with project management, customers and suppliers on the identification and resolution of project issues
  • Report on project performance, customer complaints, and corrective/preventive actions
  • Carry out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
  • Hire, train and develop associates; plan, assign and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline associates; and address complaints and resolve problems
  • Represent the company for Regional Presence and other outreach engagements

Process Review and Improvement:
  • Utilize various quality improvement tools (FMEA, SPC...) to identify and mitigate potential quality issues
  • Plan and implement continuous improvement with use of appropriate CI tools (i.e. statistical analysis, process capability and root cause analysis)
  • Define, track and report on KPIs that align with the engineering organization and company goals and initiatives


Team Building:
  • Build a quality team that is strong, responsive to the needs of the organization and is successful based on established measurements
  • Establish and maintain high/professional morale throughout the group while still meeting all performance objectives
  • Work closely with internal teams to deliver on customer commitments
  • Develop a staff that embodies the values and beliefs of the organization

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and years of experience in product development and introduction (preferably in Engineering - Industrial, Electrical, Mechanical, or other applicable discipline)
  • 8+ years of manufacturing and engineering experience in an ISO based organization
  • Proven track record of problem solving, communication and team building skills
  • Knowledge and experience with Lean/Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement, and ability to gain buy in and lead change
  • Previous leadership experience or track record of leading teams


Preferred:
  • Knowledge of ISO standards
  • Familiarity with FDA constraints for Medical and Healthcare driven customers
  • Experience working in an ESD-regulated environment
