The Manager, New Business oversees the New Business Team of CLS Investments, LLC ("CLS"), a wholly owned subsidiary of NorthStar Financial Services Group, LLC ("NorthStar"). This position performs duties including the development and performance of team members and the processes used by them; holds the team members accountable for their work.

PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT

  • Manages employees within department including but not limited to hiring, training and developing employees, delegating work assignments, writing and conducting performance appraisals, salary recommendations, coaching and counseling, and administering corrective actions
  • Conducts one-on-one and weekly team meetings with employees on a regular basis to discuss new procedures, problems and issues

PROBLEM RESOLUTION

  • Handles, troubleshoots and provides solutions to unique and/or escalated issues from both employees, and internal and external customers
  • Manages relationships with Representatives, custodians and other contacts to create an environment of excellent customer service

REPORTING

  • Reviews daily metrics of department to identify areas for workflow improvement, staffing, and balance of department workload; provides metrics and reports to Director, Service Operations
  • Tracks all new account outstanding issues to verify communication by department to Representative offices and other affected areas of CLS in a clear and timely manner; ensures issue follow-up and completion; utilizes issues as learning opportunities and possible process improvements
  • Creates, runs and analyzes other various assigned reports (AML, Linking Accounts, etc.)

COMPLIANCE REVIEW

  • Implements and ensures effective controls and checks are in place to reduce errors
  • Updates procedures based on new policies, new workflows, internal audits, compliance and regulatory changes
  • Verifies accuracy of Qualified Plans, Participants, Core Accounts and other assigned items before final sign off
  • Performs random checks of processed paperwork and accounts

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT

  • Discovers and implements opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy and quality of processes and procedures

SPECIAL PROJECTS

  • Proactively plans, executes and completes special projects as assigned by Director, Service Operations
  • Administrates website forms library to upload and assign new and updated account paperwork

May perform other duties as required and assigned

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS & CONTACTS                     

  • Regular contact with vendors, representatives or clients regarding problem resolution and to ensure accurate new account set up and timely transfer of assets

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of Investment Advisers Act of 1940, investment industry best practices, investment related Operations processes and paperwork, and custodial relationships
  • Ability to act with professionalism and diplomacy when communicating with a customer
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues utilizing creative and critical/analytical thinking skills
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining careful attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively both individually and within a team environment
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines and address competing priorities
  • Ability to manage, lead, inspire, direct, motivate, and develop a team of employees
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong written, listening and verbal communication skills
  • Effective problem solving, time management and organizational skills

EDUCATION:*

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance or related field required
  • Series 65 license preferred

EXPERIENCE:*

  • Minimum of 5 years of financial or investment-related experience required; prior experience working in an RIA or Broker/Dealer related-role preferred
  • Minimum of 1 - 3 years of experience in an operations or new business processing area preferred
  • Minimum of 1 - 3 years of management/leadership experience preferred
