Job Summary

Pediatric Neuropsychologist, with focus on serving Deaf and Hard of Hearing patients and their families

The Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences, Neuropsychology & Assessment Program at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking a full-time licensed psychologist with expertise in pediatric neuropsychology who has advanced fluency in American Sign Language, and is experienced in working with culturally Deaf children and hard of hearing children who use speaking, listening and hearing technology and their families.

The neuropsychologist will be responsible for the neuropsychological assessments of children, adolescents and young adults referred to the Neuropsychology Service with an emphasis of providing consultation, neuropsychological assessment and treatment with patients who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

Consistent with the mission of CHOP, the neuropsychologist will have opportunities to participate in training of future healthcare providers, including future psychologists through the hospital’s Postdoctoral Training Program; APA-accredited Pre-Doctoral Psychology Internship as well as opportunities to work with psychology practicum students from area universities. Psychologists at CHOP are eligible to apply for faculty appointment through the Department of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Job Responsibilities

Clinical Activity

• Demonstrates skills consistent with core privileges as a psychologist including diagnosis and treatment of children and adolescents with mental, behavioral or emotional disorders, including individual and family psychotherapy; psychological assessment of children and adolescents; consultation to other professionals concerning assessment and treatment of children and adolescents.
• In addition, demonstrates competence in clinical neuropsychology requiring the integration of neuropsychological findings with neurologic and other medical data, psychosocial and behavioral data, knowledge in neurosciences, and the ability to interpret findings with an appreciation of social, cultural and ethical issues.
• Demonstrates essential skills including specialized neuropsychological assessment techniques, specialized intervention techniques, research design and analysis in neuropsychology, professional issues and ethics, culturally competent approaches to neuropsychology, and understanding of implications of neuropsychological conditions for behavior and adjustment.
• Practices effectively as an independent clinician.
• Responsive to feedback from supervisors and colleagues about clinical practice.
• Provides comprehensive assessment and treatment services to children and families, in inpatient and/or outpatient settings, and communicates with referral sources as indicated
• Performs clinical services at a percent of effort as designated by supervisor.
• Adheres to The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences productivity standards.
• In settings where patients are scheduled into appointments, presents an EPIC schedule that rolls out, per department guidelines, delineating availability and anticipated vacation and conference time. Schedule must include enough openings to cover productivity expectations plus anticipated late cancellations/no shows.
• Assures that professional practice is in accordance with applicable professional and licensing body standards
• Follows all CHOP and Departmental policies and procedures regarding clinical and administrative activity associated with providing direct patient care

Collaboration

• Collaborates within the Department and with other Department/Division colleagues to assure that patients receive the kind of care required by patient circumstance.
• Responds to requests for consultation and service in a timely manner.
• Participates in The Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences committees
• Works collaboratively with the program’s intake coordinators and practice manager to assure there is sufficient scheduling availability and patients are scheduled appropriately as applicable.

Teaching

• May provide supervision to trainees (including externs, interns, and/or fellows) within the Department’s training programs
• Lectures and provides training within and across disciplines
• Participates in activities of the training faculty

Other

• Completes all mandatory education requirements, annual PPD testing, flu vaccine and other vaccinations as per CHOP policy
• Maintain Licensure(s) including completion of required continuing education
• Establishes plans for professional growth with manager
• Participates in program development (clinical, training, research)
• Collaborates with internal staff to complete CHOP requirements to include but not limited to Medical Staff Application
• Member and or active participation in a DCAPBS or CHOP Committees
• Presents work locally or regionally; publishes or presents at least one paper /chapter annually
• Participates in community service
• Participates in ongoing professional practice evaluations as a clinician and peer reviewer

Psychology license for Pennsylvania or New Jersey depending on the location of the position.

Required Education and Experience

Required Education: Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology

Required Experience: Experience with pediatric neuropsychology consistent with job role

Preferred Education, Experience & Cert/Lic
