Under the direction of the Service Line Administrator, the Neuro Program Coordinator is responsible for the organization of services and systems necessary for the multidisciplinary approach to the care of the neurologic and neurosurgical patient population. The Neuro Program Manager collaborates with the Directors of neurology and neurosurgery in carrying out the educational, clinical, research, administrative, and outreach activities of the neurosurgical program and stroke program. Reporting to the Service Line Administrator, the Neuro Program Coordinator is responsible for organizing, planning, directing, coordinating and providing high quality individualized patient care pursuant to the position accountabilities set forth below. These include overseeing the development and implementation of systems for evaluation of clinical competency of the nursing staff, helping to develop and update standards and policies, consultation of the nursing staff for complex nursing issues, providing pertinent continuing education for staff, and performance improvement activities.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1. Leads the initialization and maintenance of disease specific certifications Informs ICON administrators, medical directors and hospital department leaders regarding any regulatory changes
2. Demonstrates ability to problem solve and be supportive of innovation and creativity of others related to changes in processes
3. Possesses human relations skills with an ability to handle difficult/sensitive issues with regard to associate and patient privacy
4. Excellent written/oral communication skills, including group dynamics and conflict resolution
5. Clinically competent, resource person in area of expertise with the assigned disease specific program and Disease Specific Certification, continuation of staying up to date with regulations
6. Accountable and responsible for the management of service line disease specific programs with collaboration with Service Line Administrator including disease specific protocols needed/provided by the Medical Director of the program
7. Demonstrate leadership in identifying opportunities for improvement in all work processes both clinical and non-clinical with the disease specific programs
- Provides essential leadership and coordination of patient care services related to the identified disease specific program
8. Facilitates the on-going success of the service line’s disease specific program and certifications through department, facility’s and disease specific program mission and goals. Program descriptions should always be referenced as a foundation for composing annual program goals and objectives, explicitly noting the connection.
9. Provides ongoing support to ICON outpatient Clinics and serves as RN oversight, in compliance with State regulations(s).
10. Leads and participates in data collection, health outcomes reporting, clinical audits, and evaluations related to ICON clinic operations, to ensure the objectives of the program are being met .
11. Participation in Disease Specific Care committee meetings is mandatory to ensure the program goals are met in a timely fashion.
12. Disease Specific Care meeting duties include but are not limited to taking minutes, evaluation of data, chart audits, collaboration with hospital departments involved in the care of the programs patient population and development of tools to assist in the evaluation and communication of the program.
13. Maintain open and effective communication with the Medical Director of the disease programs to ensure physician engagement and approval of changes.
14. Follow proper processes for gaining approval of changes to program elements (i.e. changes in program description, ordersets, performance improvement plans, etc.)
15. Initiate and participate in an annual document review to ensure the standardization of disease specific care based upon current and accepted Clinical Practice Guidelines, in accordance with the requirements as outline by the Joint Commission.
16. Provide education to ICON and hospital staff regarding new procedures and or techniques that ICON surgeons perform, ensuring that the staff would be better able to articulate to patients about the care they may receive.
17. Provide pre-operative teaching and education to patient population and post-operative follow-up.
18. Collaborate with the ICON Service Line Coordinator to produce marketing items, patient testimonials and website enhancements relevant to the disease specific program.
19. Participate in marketing and community events that promote the disease specific program.
20. Provide continuing education for nursing staff who provide care to the program’s target population. (i.e. annual symposiums and/or summits).

8. Coordinates and/or plans care for neuro patients/families, promoting continuity between home, hospital and other health agencies.
9. Develops and/or evaluates standards of care, clinical protocols, teaching protocols and procedures, and documentation guidelines.
10. Abstracts and enters data on all neuro patients into the patient management tool.
11. Continually assess, analyze and lead improvement of the quality of care and service provided related to neuro. Monitor care and report to appropriate committees.
12. Collaborates with otherhealthcare professionals in the delivery of health care to facilitate problem resolution and expand resources to patients and families. Works with Medical Staff to initiate and maintain protocols for patient care.
13. Assists in developing the capital and equipment budgets, and works within budget parameters.
14. Maintains department compliance with applicable law, and regulating/accrediting agencies.
15. Problem solves through collaborative approach with physicians, patients, families, staff, and directors.
16. Identifies and researches key issues affecting the delivery of patient care.
17. Identifies, plans, and implements strategies which resolve identified problems.

Masters Degree in Nursing
Current California RN license and Acute Nurse Practitioner
Current California Furnishing License and DEA Number
