UW Information Technology (UWIT) is the central IT organization for the University of Washington, providing critical technology support to all three campuses, UW medical centers and global research operations. UW-IT collaborates with University partners to advance teaching, learning, innovation and discovery at the UW. IT Infrastructure within UWIT provides system design, system management, software engineering and operational support for academic and administrative systems, the University’s wired and wireless networks, telecommunications services, departmental IT and the UW-IT organization.
UW-IT has an outstanding full time opportunity for a Network Implementation Manager.
The Network Implementation (NIM) Manager position is responsible for managing a team working shift one and covering on call escalations 7x24x365.
UW IT operates a large TCP/IP-based data network, including five router centers on the main Seattle campus, with connections to over 250 campus buildings, two branch campuses in Tacoma and Bothell, dozens of remote sites in the Seattle area, the UW Medical Center and Harborview, the Pacific Northwest Gigapop, and the Washington State K-20 network. The NIM team supports over four thousand network switches and twelve thousand wireless access points. UW IT monitors and troubleshoots all of these networks 7x24x365.
The Network Implementation Manager in Operations is expected to hire and develop staff, initiate and oversee development and documentation of policies and procedures for the NIM staff, communicate effectively with executives and counterparts at peer institutions, have experience with computer network technologies, monitoring, and trouble ticket applications, and be proficient with MS Office applications.
Demonstrated expertise in managing a 7x24x365 network support team; familiarity with various monitoring and trouble tracking systems; expertise with customer notification methods and meeting service level commitments. Familiarity with routing and network management protocols such as OSPF, BGP3, and SNMP; familiarity with networking issues including LAN, WAN, MPLS, various transport technologies, and layer 1, 2, and 3 technologies. Experience with Cisco and Juniper network gear.
