Then you are likely the kind of Network “Guru” that Rackspace is looking for! We are hiring a Network Engineer for our 2nd shift team.
At Rackspace, we operate a global network of over 30,000 devices using wide variety of platforms and technologies. Our network and cloud services offer a uniquely challenging opportunity to learn and work on technologies few other places can offer under one roof. Our customers needs also drive an expectation of quality and performance that helps to build some of the best Network Engineers around. On a regular basis we work with things like Cisco ASR (1K and 9K), Nexus (3K, 6K and 7K), VSS, OSPF and BGP routing protocols, MPLS/VPLS and DWDM.
Performs the documentation, verification and implementation of changes on a live production network.
Changes range between a single step to a series of many.
Situational troubleshooting potentially requires the analysis of many network devices and data points.
Troubleshooting may include issues within an isolated LAN environment, large-shared LAN environment, and an internal routing environment involving BGP & OSPF or Internet-based issues.
The role also requires regular interaction with a number of standard and proprietary tools, which include communication, alerting documentation, automation and scripts.
Should have independent interest to stay informed of developments and trends in the network field.
Is encouraged to provide recommendations to management to help our team deliver continuous development and improvement.
Fundamental aptitude of network Switching & Routing technologies.
A general understanding of the network interactions between routers, switches, firewalls, load-balancers and the virtualization of servers.
A knack to analyze and problem solve especially in urgent situations.
Ability to be self-motivated with a desire to contribute to a team environment.
Ability to provide a FANATICAL experience through enthusiasm, care and effective communication to deliver quality results.
High school diploma or GED and CCNA certification (or equivalent level of knowledge) is required.
Guru (Preferred) Qualifications:
Minimum of 12 months experience in a customer service role is also preferred.
At least 18 months of recent operational network experience in a command-line oriented environment is highly preferred.
Bachelor degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent work experience
