Summary:
The Network Architect reports to the Manager Network Services. Under general supervision is responsible for enterprise level design and control of Lifespan�s converged voice/data/video communications network. Focuses on architectural engineering that encompasses performance security scalability best practice design and orchestration of service virtualization to provide application-aware cost effective network service delivery. Responsible for performance management assurance and reporting on all enterprise-wide networks within Lifespan and extranet connections to business partners providers and vendors. Provides support for all Lifespan IS and Network Services projects to assure high value widely accessible comprehensive integrated information network which meets customer needs. Provides team leadership in the development and control of all Lifespan communications infrastructure to provide high availability in local area wide area and extranet networks.

 

Responsibilities:
Provides leadership in design engineering of enterprise-wide Network systems to provide optimized applications and communications performance transport and availability across the Lifespan local area wide area and extranet network locations.



Leads design and implementation projects involving next generation network technologies including communications convergence and virtualization of service delivery. Designs architectural integrity (end to end) for successful implementation of new technologies.



Leads projects to evaluate test select and implement network hardware software and strategies for achieving security high availability and flexibility in all aspects of network delivery including routers switches network appliances application content management and performance management/monitoring.



Performs network planning in all levels of network technologies including convergence and virtualization technologies and competitive WAN connectivity protocols to maximize return on investment.



Ensures best practice change management processes for all network devices.



Oversees configuration and firmware/software process for enterprise-wide routers switches and communications/video equipment to maintain consistent configuration in keeping with vendor recommendations for patch level and error/bug handling.



Responsible for consolidation and reporting of network performance and capacity enterprise wide.



Researches and recommends new network technologies and upgrades to existing technologies to support business needs.



Acts as resource for IS department system vendors business partners and other personnel with problem identification and resolution in all enterprise-wide network technologies.



Assists in determining the needs structure staffing and systems required to deliver world class Network voice/data/video communications capabilities to all Lifespan affiliates.



Promotes cost-saving �green� technologies by investigating and implementing all opportunities for virtualization of network resources.



Provides support for all IS strategic and tactical projects where network support is required.



Acts as liaison with Lifespan Physician Group extranet organization and business partners with regard to the effective operation of network data/voice communications systems. Works with stakeholders to analyze needs consider alternatives and develop cost effective solutions.



Establishes benchmark criteria on utilization of all enterprise-wide wide area and local area network services equipment. Recommends and implements actions necessary to meet the service level requirements of organization.



Maintains up-to-date technical knowledge by attending seminars vendor presentations and reading professional literature.



Participates in councils quality improvement teams and other such committees as required.



Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies procedures and objectives.



Provides management with the following as required: new technology demonstrations and education; feasibility studies; affiliate needs and requirements; project plans; implementation strategies; budgetary and cost analysis; task preparedness; progress reports; documented customer feedback; and quarterly Network Services review.



Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Bachelor�s degree in Computer Science Electrical Engineering IS or related field preferred. Master�s Degree in business or technical field a plus. Current certification in Cisco architectures network security virtualization IP Telephony or other relevant technologies a plus.



EXPERIENCE:

Seven years increasingly responsible related work experience in network systems analysis/design including at least two years of related engineering experience in a similar environment. Must have extensive knowledge in selected following focus areas: high availability high capacity multilayer (data/voice/video) network design; switching and routing design including embedded security/performance intelligence; wide-area network protocols including advanced secure logically partitioned and virtualized network design; extranet technologies including firewall and Virtual Private Network (VPN) network topology design and performance assessment with focus on multilayer virtualization of service delivery; Unified Communications design and optimization; wireless network design; network disaster recovery; and TCP/IP including IPv6. All candidates must also have project management experience excellent communication and presentation skills and ability to design technical solutions to meet business needs
