TheNetwork Architect performs tier four networksupport in accordancewith the SIE OPORD.

Candidates pursuing theNetwork Architect position needanextensivebackground in

networkingtechnology. They must possessexcellentwrittenand oral communicationskills,

along with strong interpersonalandleadership abilities.  Candidates must have a strong

background in thedesign and maintenanceof local areanetworks(LANs) and widearea

networks (WANs), as well as an excellentworkingknowledge of LAN/WANprotocols(e.g.,

Open ShortestPathFirst(OSPF),BorderGateway Protocol (BGP), Multiprotocol Labeling

Switching (MPLS).

Typicaldutiesinclude:

?    Assessing businessandapplicationsrequirements for corporatedataandvoice

networks

?    Planning, designing,andupgrading networkinstallationprojects

?    Establishing andmaintainingbackup,version-controlandmalwaredefense systems

?    Troubleshootingnetworkarchitectures andrecommendingsystem fixes and

enhancements

?    Making recommendations for leveraging networkinstallationsandreducing operational  costs

 Educational Requirements:  A Bachelor’sDegreefrom an accreditedcollege or university in  InformationSystems, Computer Science,Engineering, a Mathematics-intensivediscipline, or a  similar field is recommended.

Certification Requirements:  CiscoCertifiedInternetworkExpert(CCIE)

Experience Requirements:  At least fifteenyearsofexperiencewithnetwork operating  systems(e.g.,Cisco,Novell and Windows Server),network hardware (e.g.,routers,switches,  cabling and otheressentialnetwork hardware), and LAN/WANprotocols(e.g.,OSPF,BGP,  MPLS).
