JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviews all new jobs prior to being set up, including print, program, material, tooling, fixtures, collets and holders to insure no interruptions at set-up
  • Studies parts, blueprints, drawings and engineering information to determine methods and sequence of CNC machining operations
  • Performs in-process inspections to assure products will meet requirements using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gages
  • Determines reference points, machine cutting paths, computes angular and linear dimensions, radii and curvatures
  • Determines proper tooling and fixturing requirements of machining operations, including tooling speed and feed rates. Monitors and adjusts feeds and speeds as necessary
  • Observes and simulates CNC trial runs to eliminate program errors and eliminate machine crashes
  • Compares program code to original part specifications to verify accuracy
  • Modifies existing programs to increase production efficiency
  • Performs program troubleshooting, problem identification and resolution
  • Monitors tool life and tool wear to detect potential problems
  • Develops, documents and delivers training to machine operators, team leaders, maintenance and other personnel
  • Maintains revision control of all CNC programs, including back-up programs
  • Works closely with the tool crib attendant to ensure only current programs, tools, and documentation are issued
  • Maintains work area in a safe and clean condition, utilizes appropriate personal protective equipment and adheres to lock-out/tag-out procedures

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 years of experience in setting up, programming and operating CNC multi-spindle turning centers in a precision manufacturing environment
  • Experience with developing CNC programs for Index, Traub, Mori Say, and Nomura machining centers and Hydromat rotary transfer machines or similar equipment
  • Experience with Autodesk Partmaker CAM software
  • Experience with manipulating and creating CAD solid models
  • Experience with metrology instruments and methods
  • Demonstrates creativity in resolving issues, incorporating new ideas and developing process improvements
  • Must be customer-focused with solid communication and teamwork skills
  • B.S. in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (preferred)
