Network Backbone Engineer
As a Network Backbone Engineer, you will have primary responsibility for the growth and stable functionality in a large multi-national backbone connecting customers, merchants, partners, business services, and business units to core PayPal services. One key to success in our Network Engineering positions is the ability to champion and adopt automation into everything we do from deployment, to monitoring, to trouble mitigation, to decommissioning.
Responsible for a global network with POPs in multiple continents and a number of regional datacenters mostly based in the US
Ensure security and high-availability in network designs with emphasis on proper segmentation and control with Extranets and other business services
Interface with worldwide teams to skillfully execute inter-networking tasks and projects on a large and growing enterprise LAN and WAN environment.
Be equally versed and adaptable in large-scale enterprise web application stack infrastructures and public cloud environments.
Proven ability to troubleshoot and drive root cause determination in a variety of network issues.
Be an effective escalation resource for our Network Operations staff, including handling a week-long 24x7 on-call shift
3-7 years minimum Service Provider networking experienceworking with both internal and external customers.
JNCP-SP similar certifications from other leading vendors with equivalent work experience.
In-depth switching and routing knowledge in JUNOS is a must, and possessing good working experience of leading products from multiple vendors including IOS, NX-OS, EOS is a plus.
In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, packet capture and flow analysis.
Extensive experience with BGP, ISIS, MPLS in a Service Provider environment.
Understanding of telco/WAN circuits and associated troubleshooting with carriers.
Network Automation Scripting or programming skills using Python or PERL/C/C++is a big plus.
Very familiar with Linux/Unix/FreeBSD, Open-Source NMS tools, Windows.
Able to work on individual tasks as well as larger team initiatives.
Familiarity with workflow ticketing systems such as Service Now and associated strict change management practices.
Familiar with Agile process
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
