Job Description

Job Description:

Summary:

Barr is seeking a senior-level mining hydrogeologist to help grow our team of professionals that deliver services to the mining industry in areas related to hydrogeologic characterization, water management, feasibility studies, environmental permitting, and mine reclamation. Project responsibilities may include designing complex mine water management studies and programs involving the collection of hydrogeological field data and data interpretation/evaluation; providing technical guidance on operational water management issues; and working with multidisciplinary teams (geochemists, hydrogeologists, hydrologists) on modeling studies.

Business development activities will include interacting with clients to identify and develop new project opportunities, which will include maintaining strong relationships with clients, developing proposals, and networking with clients and project partners at conferences. In addition to working with Barr's mining clients, the successful candidate may support projects across Barr's client portfolio, including the fuels, power, public, and manufacturing sectors.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, geological engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • 10 years of work experience including at least 5 years in the mining sector
  • Professional Geologist (PG) or Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one jurisdiction
  • Experience designing and implementing hydrogeologic field investigation activities, including drilling and well construction, standard field sampling procedures for soil, rock, sediments, surface water and groundwater, and aquifer tests
  • Familiarity with the use of hydrogeologic data to support groundwater model development and calibration
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills, ability to write well, and attention to detail
  • Ability to interact and collaborate with a wide variety of external clients, subcontractors, and third-party stake holders
  • A flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needs
  • Willingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedule to meet project needs
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or engineering with an emphasis in hydrogeology
  • Experience or coursework in groundwater chemistry and solute fate and transport
  • Experience developing technical analyses to support permitting and mine operations to mine closure, with ability to manage multiple projects
  • Working experience with numerical groundwater modeling software such as MODFLOW, MOLDFLOW-SUFACT, Groundwater Vistas, or FEFLOW
  • Experience with mine dewatering design and operations including pit slope depressurization, general dewatering practices, and site-wide water management
  • Recognized expertise in mining hydrogeology, demonstrated by regularly presenting at conferences and publishing in peer-reviewed journals
