SC Department of Public Health (SCDPH) is seeking to hire an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to serve as the APRN Unit Manager for the Midlands Region.

Under supervision of the Service Delivery Section Director, the Midlands APRN Unit Manager supervises a team of eleven (11) APRNs, who provide Preventive Health services within the county Health Departments of the Midlands Region. This position will also provide Preventive Health (PH) services following written protocols, agency program policies, and guidance from collaborating physicians.

Job Duties are as followed:

Population Focused Care
-Assess the health of male and female patients.

-Perform examinations, including physical and screening for psychosocial problems.

-Provide care for patients at risk or with complex reproductive health needs and refers appropriately.

-Develop contraceptive plans including insertion and removal of long-acting reversible contraceptions ( LARC).

-Develop treatment plans for identified health problems according to protocols and refers patients as appropriate.

-Provide in-depth education regarding health care issues to individuals, families, and groups.

-Teach, counsel, and monitors the treatment regimen in selected populations.

-Supervise all regional APRNs, provide consultations, order, and assist with monitoring competency and clinicalpracticefor the PH providers practicing in the Region.Continuous Quality Improvement and Training

-Serve as preceptor for APRNs, PHRNs, and Nurse Practitioner Students.

-Plan, implement, and evaluate clinical orientation and continuing education for regional APRNs.

-Monitor and evaluate for staff competencies including evaluation annually of APRN staff.

-Provide educational offerings at local and or state level. (ex. Public Health Clinics, community partners, schools, colleges, etc.)
Supervision
-Supervise regional APRNs, assures APRNs have collaborating physician assignments and documented protocols.

-Assure for completion of required continuing education units for staff.

-Manage all direct reports time and leave in the state's South Carolina Enterprise Information System (SCEIS), and conduct Employee Performance Management System in accordance with Agency guidelines annually.

-Promote implementation of DPH's Strategic Plan.

-Work toward achieving the agency's affirmative action goals in recruiting, hiring, and promotion of employees.

-Hold regular staff meetings with direct reports and conducts one-on-one meetings with each direct report at least quarterly.

-Maintain a current succession plan for employees as well as mission-critical roles within his and her supervisory area(s).

-Actively works with employees to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills and a customer-service mentality.

-Consistently works with employees to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement proactive, innovative solutions to challenges.Leadership
-Serve as a leader and role model for all PH staff.

-Provide consultation and orders for all PH staff.

-Serve on APRN Advisory board when in session.
Emergency Response and Nursing Practice:
Assist with Medical Needs Shelter (MNS) operations, maintains supportive nursing practice competencies to include, but not limited to, intramuscular, subcutaneous, and intradermal best practice injection administration, oral medication administration, and client emergency response including First Aid, CPR, and AED, and be willing and available to assist during times of public health emergency and outbreak response efforts.
Headquarters for this position are negotiable within the counties of the Midlands Region.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
State Minimum Requirements:

Licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the State Board of Nursing for South Carolina (Board); graduation from an accredited school of nursing at the master's level or doctoral level acceptable to the Board to include clinical experience.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements:

Master of Nursing (MN), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) by the SC Board of Nursing and Prescriptive Authority through the SC Board of Nursing or MN, MSN, or DNP with ability to obtain licensure as an APRN by the SC Board of Nursing and Prescriptive Authority through the SC Board of Nursing within three (3) months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications

One (1) year of leadershi and or /supervisory experience in the healthcare field.

One (1) year of experience with the Department of Public Health (DPH).

Driving Record: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver's license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a ten (10) year driving record.
