Position Description

Mathematica is a nationally recognized research organization that conducts social policy studies on health care, disability, education, welfare, nutrition, and related topics. We are looking for a MS Office Technical Support Specialist in our Princeton, NJ or Washington, DC office to perform programming tasks required for production.  The MS Office Technical Support Specialist will be responsible for design templates and workflow development to support authoring, editing, and production in MS Office. This may include the creation or retooling for Word, PowerPoint, and Excel templates, documentation of template and macro functions, collaborative participation in design of Word, Word-to-InDesign, and Word-to-HTML workflows, and report development.  These tasks may be carried out on network servers, laptops or desktops and utilize either a packaged program or a high-level programming language.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support tools for the Authoring/QC, Editing, and Formatting environments
  • Create word tools to better prepare documents for import into InDesign for formatting
  • Create word tools and templates to bring in efficiencies when producing web content
  • Assist in training and guidance of project and production staff in use of templates
  • Document all programming specifications for MS Office application customizations and macros
  • Support adherence to corporate visual identity and branding guidelines across projects and formats
  • Build relationships and align efforts with internal stakeholders, including IT and Communications colleagues, business development teams, and business units
  • Improve quality and efficiency by studying, evaluating, and suggesting potential enhancements to production processes

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Statistics, or related field
  • Minimum of three years’ work experience in applications support and programming
  • Experience in one or more of the following computer operating environments: Windows 8, Windows 10, Windows Server
  • Experience with several of the following computer packages or languages: Visual Studio, Visual Studio Tools for Office, VB, C# (ASP.NET CSS, HTML5, and Javascript a plus)
  • Three to five years of experience in publishing operations support, content management, or document management is preferred
  • Knowledge of industry-standard publications workflows for print and electronic publishing
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
