Job Description

This role is in the Platform and Content Technology (PCT) organization where we build the foundational capabilities on which Thomson Reuters (TR) runs. This team is responsible for TR's overall API strategy and platform. We seek to unleash the full potential of APIs delivered via a microservices architecture and secured with identity – this is the cloud-native future we're heading towards using forward-thinking infrastructure like Google Apigee, Docker, Kubernetes & Istio and Lambda/Functions.

Every product team depends on us and we're changing the way Thomson Reuters builds and operates software.

Is your passion for platform engineering? That is, envisioning and building the core services that underpin all Thomson Reuters' products? Then we want you on our team! We're looking for a technical leader who can accelerate our move to cloud-based microservices running on Kubernetes + Istio. You live and breathe "infrastructure as code" and have the engineering discipline to develop & operate platforms at scale. You also thrive in a technical leadership role, like to get your hands on the keyboard and are naturally a collaborative team member.

You'll be working primarily with:

  • AWS and Azure public cloud
  • Docker, Kubernetes & service mesh (Envoy, Istio, AWS App Mesh, etc.)
  • Identity standards (OAuth, UMA, OIDC and SAML)
  • Google Apigee API Management Platform

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical leadership in microservices architectures; especially Kubernetes + Istio and infrastructure as code
  • Mentor other engineers inside and outside the team
  • Extreme collaboration with all product teams; transparency is a must!
  • Establish best practices; provide tooling that makes compliance frictionless
  • Ensure consistency with cloud architectural guiding principles for assigned projects

Qualifications:

  • Proven record in platform engineering, successfully leading infrastructure automation and cloud transformation project in an enterprise environment
  • 1+ years enterprise experience with deploying and managing Kubernetes, ideally with EKS or AKS – enterprise meaning 20+ nodes, 50+ microservices, etc. Experience with competing approaches like serverless (Lambda or Functions) or AWS ECS/Fargate a bonus
  • Minimum of 10 years software engineering experience with 2 years of relevant cloud experience (Architecture, Development and DevOps) including most of the following:
  • Cloud-native applications and services on Google, Azure or AWS
  • Enterprise platforms with an emphasis on automation and security (bonus points for OAuth2, UMA, OIDC and/or SAML experience)
  • CI/CD Automation (CloudFormation, TerraForm, AWS CodePipeline/CodeDeploy, Jenkins,…)
  • Strong networking and security fundamentals
  • Bachelor's degree in related technology program preferred.
