Opportunity summary: The Pressroom Manager identifies, documents, and drives departmental metrics for Safety, Quality, Productivity, Cost and Waste. You will ensure that jobs are built appropriately and efficiently to ensure high quality products are produced on time to meet and exceed customer expectations. Provide oversight and leadership in the assigned departments. Ensure the timely production of quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations. Proactively manage departmental metrics that impact cost (downtime, make-readies, run speed and waste). Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures. Foster a team atmosphere, provide vision, and demonstrate support of the company's core processes. Be responsible for day-to-day management of assigned departments, including achieving production goals, managing performance of direct reports, making sound operational decisions, solving problems, and managing conflict.

How you will impact Smurfit Westrock:
  • Provide leadership and direction including overseeing production, materials, equipment and tools to ensure efficiency is maintained and projects remain on schedule
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and projects to reduce printing waste, minimize downtime/set-up time, and identify additional opportunities for efficiencies
  • Ensure zero defects to printing and optimal density color measures to minimize downtime and quality issues
  • Build strong relationships with customers, answering questions, resolving issues, making suggestions to customers/sales representatives regarding workflow/process improvements to proposed jobs to maximize the benefits to both the customer and the company
  • Effectively communicate customer needs to the team and provide recommendations to customer to reduce cost and ensure greater product quality
  • Coordinate production activities with other areas (e.g. procurement, quality assurance) to obtain optimum production and utilization of manpower, machines, and equipment
  • Implement strategic planning/scheduling of the press room workload for maximum throughput and accuracy
  • Proactively manage departmental metrics that impact cost (e.g. set-up times, remakes, waste) to monitor printing crew performance against KPIs
  • Provide coaching and mentoring for supervisors and technicians by identifying training needs for building capability and continued growth
  • Drive employee engagement and create an inclusive culture to motivate participation in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Reviews and analyzes production, quality control, maintenance and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production issues
  • Coordinates scheduling alternative plans and priorities with scheduling and production teams as required to effectively meet schedules in the event of equipment failure and unplanned downtime
  • Consults with engineering personnel relative to modification of machines and equipment in order to improve production and quality of products
  • Identifies, documents, and drives departmental metrics for Productivity, Safety, Quality, Waste and any other metrics required by the company
  • Ensures compliance to all company policies and procedures, continually participating in company LEAN manufacturing training and audits
  • Identifies and practices lean manufacturing initiatives
  • Coordinates production activities with procurement, maintenance, and quality control activities to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment
  • Ensures staffing is appropriate to meet workload requirements and productivity standards
  • Participates in meetings, is actively involved in technical planning of high profile and specialty items as they relate to print techniques. Communicates and coordinates agreed upon plan to his team, ensures that it's executed at a high level of efficiency and meets expectation for quality.
  • Maintains inventory of pressroom parts and supplies
  • Effectively communicates with employees, vendors and customers
  • Performs Color okays to a superior level
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots all print related problems

What you need to succeed:
  • High School diploma or GED is required, Bachelor's degree is preferred
  • 5+ years manufacturing supervisory experience
  • Proven successful leadership experience with a strong background in print production and manufacturing process and equipment
  • Strong technical knowledge of sheet fed press operations
  • Experience with UV and cold foil printing is a plus
  • Must pass color vision test and color hue test.
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement is a plus
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage time spent on accomplishing tasks to increase productivity and efficiency
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all employees and to customers, both verbally and in writing
  • Team player mindset with demonstrated ability to supervise, lead, and coach others to achieve their goals and objectives
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and ability to learn new software applications

The salary range for this position is $92,250.00 - $153,750.00, depending on your role, level, and location. The benefits for this role may include short-term bonus incentive, health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance programs, and a number of programs that provide for both paid and unpaid time away from work. Your actual pay will be based on your work location and other factors, such as your skills, experience, and education.
