Job Summary
Under general supervision, creates strategic external communications plans in support of corporate initiatives. Partners directly with business and functional leaders to implement externally focused communications that enhance and support business objectives, thought leadership and promotion of Travelers’ reputation. This job requires regular, direct contact with the media. Incumbent independently performs a variety of duties including complex duties within established guidelines. Responsible for defined set of assignments.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Drive development, implementation and execution of moderately complex external communication programs, ensuring that programs enhance and promote business objectives. Advise business leaders and project teams onexternal communications objectives, strategy, and content for a variety of external audiences at all levels. Partnerwith business area/initiative subject matter experts to develop content for external strategic communications. Counsels leadership on external communications approach and stakeholder engagement; recommends changes. Utilize communications expertise to ensure successful implementation of external communications. Coordinate overall communications delivery across a variety of external audiences, partnering with content and channel owners to ensure a comprehensive and integrated communications approach. Utilize and recommend creative solutions beyond traditional media relations for maximum effectiveness and reach of external communications. Adhere to and ensure that others follow enterprise approval processes, templates and brand guidelines in the development of external communications materials. Integrate key strategic business messages into initiative and project communications. Share business and communications subject matter expertise with team members. Measure effectiveness of assigned external communications through qualitative and quantitative methods. May recommend changes. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in in English, journalism, PR, communications or writing or minimum of 4 years of related communications experience.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Typically 5-7 years of experience in communications or a related field. Experienceworking with reporters. General knowledge of contemporary communications techniques and understanding of appropriate methods and techniques for communicating with multiple audiences. Possesses sufficient knowledge to perform most work in normal situations.
