Primary Job Functions

We are seeking a candidate in life cycle and energy systems analysis to join a team executing programs aimed at understanding, modeling, and quantifying energy technologies in terms of emissions, energy contributions, and impacts.  This position also requires knowledge of systems analysis and the ability to conduct research independently and to interpret results into meaningful messages.

Job Requirements

A PhD in chemical engineering, chemistry, environmental engineering or related field is required. The successful candidate must have a strong background and demonstrated scientific excellence in estimating flows and emissions related to energy production and its use.  Familiarity with process design is also required. 

The successful candidate should be willing to explore new areas with an interdisciplinary team, have excellent analytical and leadership skills, and outstanding communication skills allowing her or him to develop broad based research programs and to collaborate and interact externally.

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Previous experience with life cycle assessment is required.  Experience with modeling platforms such as Aspen Plus, Matlab, GAMS is preferred. Additional experience in mathematical modeling approaches, statistical analysis, or optimization is also desirable.


ExxonMobil’s Corporate Strategic Research (CSR) laboratory is a dynamic and exciting place to work.  CSR is located in scenic western New Jersey, about an hour west of New York City and northwest of Princeton.  Within CSR, active research programs exist in all areas of the company’s business and include the traditional fields of chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, physics, geoscience, and mechanical engineering. Interdisciplinary research is the norm, and close ties are maintained with academic and national laboratory communities through collaborations and publication or presentation of results.
