PURPOSE OF POSITION: To learn the fundamental skills required to become an organizational leader in the achievement of medication-use safety under direct supervision within the Pharmacy Division of a Medical Center dedicated to the care of infants, children and adolescents.
·Medication-Use Safety
Complete designed experiential opportunities that develop the individual into an effective leader in medication-use safety, serving as an authoritative resource and visionary on the ideal safe medication-use system for the organization. Represent the medication-use safety perspective to the organization's design of its technology and automation systems. Conduct planning for pursuit of the organization's vision of a safe medication-use system and collect medication-use safety data and use appropriate data analysis techniques to identify needed improvements in the medication-use system. Manage changes in the medication-use safety system.
·Research/Scholarly Activity
Complete a major residency research project during the year to address a medication-use safety related issue. Complete the project by June 1 and submit a written report in a format conforming to accepted manuscript guidelines.
·Performance Improvement
Develop skill in performance improvement science that then leads to a completion of a performance improvement project that benefits the safety of our patients.
Develop leadership skills by assuming leadership role in medication safety teams/committees and participation/contributions in shared governance.
·Teaching and Education
Present continuing education programs to the organization's health team members including physicians and nurses. Present a minimum of three formal cases/seminars; the last case/seminar being on the resident's project. Provide in-service education to pharmacy staff and students. Precept the PGY1 resident's Medication Safety rotation.
·Professional Development
Identify and assume responsibility for learning needs. Attend/complete all required CCHMC training sessions. Stay current with pertinent medication-use safety-related literature. Active participation in local, state and/or national medication-use safety-related professional organizations.

Skills & Competencies
·Pharmacy Knowledge
Broad knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities in pharmacy practice necessary for further professional development at an advanced level of pharmacy practice

Required: ·PharmD Degree from an ACPE accredited program AND Licensed as a pharmacist within the state of Ohio ·Participation in the ASHP Residency matching program ·Completion of an accredited PGY1 residency
