Allina Health Laboratory provides a full menu of essential and specialized laboratory services to customers in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. We provide reference laboratory services to four major metropolitan hospitals, 13 regional hospitals, including Abbott Northwestern – WestHealth (Plymouth), 59+ Allina Health clinics, 40+ hospital-based clinics and outpatient surgery centers. As a local, accessible resource, we provide clinical and anatomic pathology services that support customers diagnostic needs.

 

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures within established guidelines
  • Ensures corrective actions are taken and documented
  • Maintains communications with staff and Technical Consultant
  • Coordinates problem resolution
  • Demonstrates a high level of theoretical knowledge in the department as a whole, and serves as a technical expert to provide advice, training, and direction to less experienced personnel
  • Serves as a primary departmental contact for internal and external customers and main contact with Technical Consultant/Manager
  • Performs complextroubleshooting, preventive and corrective maintenance, annual safety checks, and calibration checks on equipment and determines when backup methods must be implemented
  • Consults with Technical Consultant, CES, or vendor service
  • Teaches theoretical information, as well as methodology, to students and new staff. Active involvement in ongoing training and mentoring for staff and students
  • Coordinates training of new staff and identifies technical deficiencies
  • Performs and documents QC; takes appropriate remedial action following established laboratory guidelines
  • Establishes QC program appropriate for tests performed
  • Performs proficiency testing as assigned and maintains documentation to comply with regulatory requirements

Education

  • 4 yeardegree in medical technology or related science, completion of clinical internship, certification as CLS/MT + 5 years experience OR
  • HEW MT/CLS per CLIA 88 + 5 years experience OR
  • 4 yeardegree in related science, certification in lab specialty area, + 5 years experience in appropriate analytic area OR
  • 4 yeardegree in medical technology or science, completion of clinical internship, certification as AMT + 5 years experience

Licensure/Certification

  • CLS/MT, AMT, or specialty certification required within one year of hire date. Staff who received certification after January 1, 2004 is required to renew their certification every three years
