Description

The Department of Emergency Medicine seeks a Medical Director to lead the Mount Sinai-Union Square Urgent Care Center (MSUS UCC).


This role supports the implementation of medical and clinical policies, services and procedures within the MSUS UCC, and they will partner with both site and system leadership to optimize the clinical, operational and financial performance of the practice. The scope of oversight of this role will also include the New York Eye & Ear Urgent Care Center upon its opening.


Responsibilities

The Medical Director develops short- and long-term plans for on-going improvement of the clinical, operational, and administrative quality of the practice. This role will include a clinical time commitment in the MSUS UCC, as well as the NYEE UCC upon its opening. Ultimately, the expectation will be that a minimum of 0.5 clinical FTE (or 750 hours annually) will be clinical time in the urgent care centers. The Medical Director will report dually to the Regional Medical Director, Downtown as well as the Vice Chair of Clinical Operations in the Department of Emergency Medicine.


Qualifications

Position Qualifications:


Medical Degree from an Accredited University

Current New York State medical license

Board-certified in Emergency Medicine

Clinical administrative experience preferred

A strong work ethic and desire to participate in a team-oriented, performance-driven health system

Position requirements:


Communication


Attend recurring Medical Director meetings and system meetings as needed

Meet weekly with Triad leads - Practice Manager/Administrator and Nurse Manager

Conduct monthly agenda-driven Provider meetings

Attend recurring staff meetings, participate in creating agenda for staff meetings, work with practice manager and nurse manager to develop agenda and review data prior to meeting

Defines and implements organizational asks/agenda from the site/health system

Clinical and Quality Improvement


In a triad partnership model with nursing and the Administrative Manager develops and implements clinical and other quality improvement initiatives

Lead all case investigations requiring inquiry of clinical care (e.g. debriefings and RCAs)

Reviews universal Ambulatory quality measures such as (PRESS-GANEY, Infection Prevention, Emergency Response)

Ensures regulatory compliance – Joint Commission readiness

Supports Regional Medical Director to address patient concerns regarding clinical care or provider communication

Develops and implements practice-based specific quality measures to report out to QSAG regularly

Respond to patient complaints and serve as the main liaison with the office of patient relations for the practice

Supports evidence based clinical care

Evaluations


Perform Annual Faculty Evaluations and bi-annual OPPE for physicians on site

Meet with underperforming providers to develop, document and implement performance improvement plan

Participate in staff performance appraisals

Mentorship


Meet weekly 1:1 with new physicians to conduct chart review for appropriate clinical decision making, documentation and coding for initial 3 months of employment

Provide education, training and support to all physicians on site

Finance and Operations


Along with the Practice Manager/Admin Director provide financial and operational oversight for the practice

Review monthly financial performance and address variance to budget

Salary Disclosure Information:

We have an excellent, highly competitive benefits package with salary ranging from $375K to $425K depending on experience and qualifications. Mount Sinai Health System provides a salary range to comply with the New York City law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialties, historical productivity, historical collections, and hospital/community need. As such, an actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of the range, and in certain circumstances, may wind up being outside of the listed salary range. The salary range listed is for full-time employment and does not include bonuses or incentive compensation or benefits.
