Scope of PracticeAs a key leader at Veritas, the Medical Director must be aligned with Veritas’ Vision, Mission, Core Values, andStrategic Initiatives.  This individual is responsible for expediting patient admissions and engaging in barrier removalto ensure prompt access to care, ensuring outstanding quality of care, and liaising with other medical providers toensure comprehensive medically-based treatment. The Medical Director is also responsible for the managementof services provided by the medical care staff, inclusive of on-call coverage, consistent with policies andprocedures, commitment to excellent, provision of evidence-based care, and in compliance with the rules andregulations for all pertinent regulatory agencies. 

Major Accountabilities:

  • As a member of the senior clinical and medical team at Veritas, provide leadership and input into thefollowing activities:
  • Continually streamline the admissions process to facilitate timely patient access to care through 
    • prompt intake data review
    • removal of barriers
    • ensuring availability of admissions slots
    • interfacing with referral sources and/or patient and families in relationship to the admissions process
  • Embrace the complicated intersection of medical and psychiatric care of ED diagnoses, forging both outstanding medical care and fully integrated psychiatric care.
  • Advocate for appropriate treatment at higher levels of care to achieve clinical outcomes – doc-to-doc reveiws with 3rd party payors and the provision of key information for the utilization review process.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to all medical and nursing staff in matters of clinical and medical management for all patients through supervision, consultation, education, and problem/conflict resolution.
  • Provides direct supervisory management for the medical staff including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and nurse managers.  Works closely with Executive Director and Clinical Director.
  • Promotes and educates staff on current practices in the field of eating disorders medicine and psychiatry.
  • Responsible for adequate staffing levels of medical staff to serve patients in the facility at all times, toinclude on-call coverage.
  • Responsible for fiscal management of the medical services department including budget and capital expenditures. Works with ED and Corporate Director of Medical Services to meet budgetary expectations on an on-going basis.
  • Provides direct patient care and management for patients. Assumes and/or delegates management when necessary for absent medical staff providers.
  • Provides educational forums to patients, family members, and staff as needed. 
  • Provides supervision for psychiatric physician extenders at site.
  • Oversees development and revision of all policies and procedures regarding provision of medical services.
  • Representing Veritas in outreach activities to include speaking engagements, grand rounds presentation, participating in professional visit programming, etc…
  • Forging strategic partnerships with hospitals who refer TO Veritas, and TO WHOM Veritas refers. 
  • Establishing training opportunities for medical school residents, nursing students, extenders, etc…
  • In collaboration with Human Resources, provide supervisionsupport and coaching to employees
  • Other supervisory activities include (but are not limited to):
    • Interviewing, hiring, goal development, onboarding and insuring continuous training requirements andcompliance items are met. 
    • 1:1 and team meetings to discuss successes, challenges, new projects, innovations, company changes, etc.
    • Monitors medical staff performance and provides leadership for performance improvement, timely coaching and disciplinary action (delivery and documentation), as needed
    • Completing performance reviews for employees within company designated timeframes
    • Maintain employees’ timecards in Payroll system, ensuring the correct hours are accounted for, overtime is managed, and paid-time off request are promptly addressed.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of Residency program in General Psychiatry and Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an in-patient psychiatric settings. 
  • Two-three years prior leadership experience in an in-patient psychiatric setting preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of the treatment of the DSM V diagnosis of Eating Disorders.
  • Extensive experience in the treatment of Eating Disorders
  • Experience with guiding practice in compliance with pertinent National, State and The Joint Commission regulations governing treatment facilities and inpatient psychiatric facilities.
  • CEDS certification, preferred


Specific Skills:

  • Must possess and demonstrate a high degree of leadership, transparency, organizational ability, andoutstanding oral and written communication skills. 
  • Knowledge of hospital system management, policies, budgeting, personnel managementand census flex is required
  • Strong knowledge of EMR systems and strong computer skills, including; Microsoft Suite and Outlook.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional boundaries.  
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with patients, families, peers and manager.
  • Follows all procedures and protocols for patient care and documentation.
  • Exercises good judgement regarding interpersonal interactions with patients, families, peers and manager atall times.
  • Completes continuing education requirements as mandated by credentialing agencies.
