Director of Engineering
This position requires lawful access to ITAR/EAR controlled information. Join us and help us bring manufacturing of next-generation healthcare laser products to Rochester, NY. As part of our Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) team at Melles Griot, you will move technology from our development center in California to our high-quality, cost-effective manufacturing factory in Rochester, NY. In this high-profile role, you will develop your manufacturing and leadership skills as you assist engineers in learning, documenting, and teaching our laser manufacturing processes. Your technical and creative skills will be stretched as you continually strive to develop better procedures and obtain better results. Some travel to California will be required.
SEGMENT OVERVIEW (IDEX HEALTH & SCIENCE):
Based in Rochester, NY IDEX Health & Science’s line of products is comprised of a Light Sources Group and an Optical Systems Group. The Light Sources Group manufactures a variety of visible, low to moderate power lasers and laser-based systems uniquely designed for consistent performance. The Light Sources Group offers three basic types of lasers: gas (helium-neon and ion lasers), diode-pumped solid-state (DPSS) lasers, and semiconductor diode laser assemblies. The Optical Systems Group provides the design, prototype and low to mid volume manufacturing of custom lens assemblies and optical systems. The Optical Systems Group also specializes in the design of reliable shutter mechanisms and assemblies.

SCOPE OF ROLE:
This position manages, guides, audits and coordinates the work of Mechanical Engineering team and support staff placing particular emphasis on developing new engineering solutions and products consistent with the appropriate timelines and budgets. This position is responsible for overseeing the development of system architectures, participating and leading the design, tolerancing, and build of optics-based instruments and assemblies. This position is required to support OEM business and the product development goals of the company and to support ongoing production. Other functions may be assigned, and management retains the discretion to add or change duties.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals; Capacity to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customer’s regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Aptitude to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format, as well as the sheer skill to effectively present information.
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations; Capability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
