This position reports directly to the Engineering Manager. This is a hand?s on multifaceted Design and Management role with also strong interaction with Manufacturing and Repair. The candidate will be required to architect innovative Power Electronic Packaging Designs for the aerospace industry. The candidate should be an expert in thermal and stress simulation tools to validate designs. Furthermore, the candidate will be expected to manage and mentor a group of Junior Mechanical Engineers.
In this role the incumbent?s responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
1 Work with Electrical and Electro-Mechanical Engineers to make critical part placement on PCB assemblies.
2 Design layout and routing of appropriate printed circuit boards and designs associated PCB assemblies.
3 Designs overall mechanical packaging.
4 Performs design verification and tolerance checking.
5 Instruct production line assemblers on drawing content as required.
6 Consult with production engineering in the design of fixtures required for assembly
7 Designs of minor mechanical parts as directed by the Configuration Manager.
8 Generation, revision, and maintenance of engineering drawings and parts lists.
9 Create required outline / top assembly drawings for both products and sales proposals
10 Create detail drawings for use by outside vendors to make per print fabricated parts
11 Consult with ILS department to develop assembly drawings compatible with Component Maintenance Manuals
12 Mechanical design and electronics packaging of switch mode power supplies, inverters, battery backup power, frequency converters and voltage regulators.
13 Run analysis (thermal and stress) to validate design
14 Manage Vibration testing for unit Qualification Units
15 Assist Manufacturing Engineers with transfer of Units from Engineering to Manufacturing
16 Participate in product cost reductions by looking for, and validating alternate parts.
17 Manage a group of Mechanical Engineers to meet program schedules.
The successful candidate will have a background which includes the following demonstrable experience, skills and education:
1 Education: B.S.E.E (required) and M.S.E.E (preferred)
2 Work Experience: Minimum 12years design and at least 2 years Managing Mechanical Group
3 Must be able to use Thermal and Stress Simulation tools (FlowTherm, Ansys, etc.)
4 Highly motivated self-starters with a desire to win
5 Comfortable with being held accountable for results
6 Manage a team to solve complex problems.
7 Demonstrated Power Electronic Packaging
8 CAD Tool Solidworks
9 Be able to design and encompass all aspects of Power Electronic Packaging with emphasis on thermal and weight optimization.
10 Good writing and Documentation Skill.
Ensure compliance with applicable processes and procedures during the course of daily job function
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, reach with arms and hands, climb stairs, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 lbs.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time and an air-conditioned and heated office. The noise level is occasionally high.
