Candidates must be able to demonstrate the successful delivery of detailed mechanical design packages on medium to large scale capital projects. Candidates must possess the skills required to develop and execute project tasks and deliverables, have a strong drive to deliver a quality project to customers, and have experience in leading a mechanicalengineering team. Engineering capabilities required include the ability to develop and implement engineering and design concepts for mechanical/HVAC, plant and clean utilities, compressed gases, plumbing, and fire protection systems, as well as a thorough understanding of the development of design documents through conceptual, preliminary, detailed, and construction package stages (P&IDs, distribution plans, specifications, etc.).
Responsibilities include interfacing and coordinating with internal engineering disciplines as well as clients, subcontractors, construction managers, and vendors. Projects consist primarily of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or industrial projects -- both existing building renovations/retrofits and new construction. Qualified candidates must have proven ability to handle multiple complex tasks, be independent problem solvers, and have business and personnel management skills including the ability to establish and manage priorities.
? Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
? 15+ years of experiencerequired, much preferably in a design firm setting
? PE registration
? Thorough knowledge of codes and cGMP related to the design of industrial and manufacturing facilities and systems.
? Experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and industrial design projects
? Ability to lead a project and design effort from a mechanical / utilities perspective (from concept design through start-up)
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
o Responsible for all aspects of resource management. Develop and manage mechanical design scope, budgets and schedules. Direct activities of Mechanical team. Must have knowledge in the use of CAD and modeling programs as necessary.
o Full supervisory responsibility including evaluating job performance, coaching, and training direct reports.
o Provides leadership in development, execution, and scrutiny of discipline?s quality processes.
o Acts as the department subject matter expert in terms of appropriate engineered applications to meet client design challenges
o Design of mechanical utility systems -- develop HVAC, plant and clean utility, plumbing, and compressed gas system philosophies and utility consumption summaries.
o Perform temperature / humidity control / HVAC and utility load calculations.
o Develop conceptual design and preliminary design documents including calculations related to sizing and selecting of systems, development of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID?s), general arrangements, airflow diagrams, pressurization plans, and classification plans.
o Perform energy studies and analysis.
o Develop final mechanical design documents including specification, sequences of operation as well as the piping layout, piping & duct plans, details and final construction documents associated with these systems.
o Perform construction assistance in the form of submittal reviews, RFI responses, and field visits to verify construction of Mechanical / Utilities scope is executed per the intent of the design. Assist in start-up of systems when required.
o Nurtures former and existing client contacts in expectation of generating new leads.
o Contributes to discipline related content for proposals (e.g., scope, deliverables, fee, and schedule).
