As part of the Sensors team based in Burnsville, Minnesota the Mechanical Engineer will work in the Air Data Sensors (ADS) design team and be responsible for working on integrated product teams to develop new, advanced air data systems products while also supporting existing products in production.
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical portions in all phases of a development program from requirements development through design and test to implementation at full rate production.
You will have access to a world class wind tunnel, environmental test lab, and forensics investigation lab to help our team continue delivering industry leading air data solutions. The engineer will be a highly motivated self-starter capable of driving tasks and small projects to completion on time and on budget.
What You Will Do:
Support bids and proposals for new ADS products
Thoroughly review and understand product specifications and determine design requirements and scope of work.
Support complex, multi-discipline teams
Perform estimates of own effort and duration for tasks.
Support creation and management of project schedules.
Requirements management and convergence planning.
Support stage gate design reviews both internally and externally to customers.
Generate design concepts in conformance with requirements and ensure that adequate trade studies and analyses are performed to arrive at optimum design configurations.
Perform tolerance analyses on components and assemblies to ensure proper fit/function.
Be proficient in CAD (Pro-E preferred) solid modeling techniques to prepare component and assembly models and drawings.
Writing test requests, supporting design verification testing, and coordinating with test department.
Specify materials including engineered plastics, alloys and their coatings
Specify material joining methods and specifications where necessary (i.e. bolted joints, adhesives, etc.)
Provide necessary engineering support for new hardware coordination and fabrication.
Work in a lab environment to fabricate and assemble test fixtures and equipment.
Perform root cause and corrective action tasks to solve problems
Provide MRB (Material Review Board) support and disposition nonconforming product.
Interface with all other functional groups and departments as required in the development of the product design.
Use department computer technology in an independent and productive manner.
Work with the Global Engineering Center in India on technical design tasks.
Experience with materials properties/selection and experience with manufacturing processes.
Drive the usage of appropriate Lean Product Development tools to support cost-effective technical solutions with a focus on platform design, reuse, and knowledge management.
Adhere to all Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) as well as International Trade Compliance (ITC) regulations and policies.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience oran Advanced Degree in a related field or in absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience
Qualifications We Prefer:
Experience writing formal test procedures, performing formal testing, and writing formal test reports
Experience with DO-160 and/or Mil-810 specifications
Experience reviewing and knowledge of product specifications and determining design requirements and scope of work.
Experience of requirements management and convergence planning.
Experience of generating design concepts in conformance with requirements and ensure that adequate trade studies and analyses are performed to arrive at optimum design configurations.
Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
Experience supporting complex projects and integrated cross functional teams.
Demonstrated ability to provide effective collaboration across the organization and various disciplines including Engineering, Operations, Program Office, and Business Development.
Demonstrated ability with conflict resolution and negotiating skills.

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
