As a Mechanical Engineer on the Facebook AR/VR hardware team, you will develop state of the art mechanical designs, structures, mechanisms and sensor integration solutions that will create transformative experiences for users of Augmented Reality. We value people who work well in teams and can brainstorm big ideas. You will become part of a team exploring new concepts through analytical modeling and fast iterative prototyping. You will work on cutting edge technologies with a diverse cross-functional team of engineers and scientists that pioneer mechanical, electrical, optical, firmware, software, computer vision and materials. You should be able to drive a concept into a prototype and envision how that prototype could transition into a high-volume consumer product.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead design of mechanical solutions independently or as a part of a team
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team to synthesize ideas into requirements
  • Use 3D CAD software to create concept and detailed designs for parts and assemblies
  • Analyze, optimize, build, test and refine prototypes to ensure robust products

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of industry/academic experience
  • Experience in 3D CAD modeling and physical prototyping
  • Experience with materials and manufacturing techniques (Machining, 3D printing, injection molding, etc.)
  • Experience with GD&T, tolerance analysis, and associated metrology
  • Experience with driving a design from concept to manufacturing

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of product design/prototyping and R&D experience, including full systems ownership
  • Experience with mechanical and optics metrology devices such as CMM, OMM, interferometry
  • Experience with designing complex injection molded parts
  • Experience designing complex parts using elastomers
  • Experience with designing wearable electronics for high volume manufacturing
  • Experience optimizing systems using DOEs (design of experiments)
  • Experience with design and integration of haptic devices
  • Experience with metal manufacturing techniques e.g. machining, sheet-metal fabrication, diecasts, thixomolding, MIM, etc.
