We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our innovative Trayer Engineering team, specifically focusing on the mechanical design of new and existing switchgear products. In this role, you will be instrumental in providing design, standardization, prototyping, and qualification testing. You'll apply your expertise to analyze complex problems, create innovative designs to resolve them, and ensure the performance, reliability, and manufacturability of our cutting-edge switchgear solutions, all while contributing to Siemens' mission of creating technology with purpose.

You will make an impact with the following responsibilities:
  • Switchgear Product Design & Development:
    • Lead the mechanical design of new switchgear products and reconfigure existing product structures using existing, standardized components.
    • Perform complex part and assembly design using SolidWorks 3D modeling software, from concept through final design for production.
    • Produce drawings and specifications for product lines, for use in sales catalogs.
    • Introduce design simplification ideas to the Design Team to ensure performance, safety, quality, reliability, cost, and producibility.
  • Analysis, Prototyping & Qualification:
    • Develop and support qualification test programs used by both on-site and 3rd party labs.
    • Conduct advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in the areas of mechanical structures, fluid flow, and heat transfer.
    • Develop design prototypes and support production qualification, failure root-cause analysis, and Kinematics.
    • Analyze problems and create designs to resolve them effectively.
  • Collaboration & Technical Leadership:
    • Provide support to other organizational teams on R&D for new switchgear design.
    • Maintain focus on customer satisfaction through improved product reliability and cost reduction.
    • Determine product requirements based on current and potential user input.
    • Network and collaborate with other engineers and professionals, preserving and protecting company intellectual and technical capital.
    • Maintain and preserve proper configuration management methodology for assembly and piece part drawings.

You'll win us over by having the following qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Six (6) or more years of experience with component design analysis and validation.
  • Strong experience in engineering development work and addressing production issues.
  • Advanced SolidWorks experience and strong CAD skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) modeling and simulation, including mechanical structures, fluid flow, and heat transfer.
  • Strong knowledge of Kinematics.
  • Proven ability to work independently in several aspects of the work.
  • Open to < 25% travel.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US with no sponsorship required now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with the design of switchgear or similar electrical distribution equipment.
  • Experience working with electrical components designs (breakers, busbars, control cabinets, etc..)
  • Experience working with sheet metal, simulation studies, structural analysis, enclosure design.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills.
  • Self-motivated demeanor and the ability to use initiative.
  • A flexible teammate with a collaborative approach.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
  • Proven ability to lead technical aspects of projects or mentor junior engineers.

The pay range for this position is $104,887 to $179,806. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.

The pay range for this position is $104,887 - $179,806 annually with a target incentive of 5 of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
