Mechanical Engineer

Description:

Responsible for design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical products and systems. Performs engineering design evaluations. May develop a range of products. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering and 2-5 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.

The Intermediate-Level Mechanical Engineer is expected to contribute in the ideation, mechanical design and development of these automated research and production systems. The individual is expected to work well within a multidiscipline engineering team and to effectively coordinate with Electrical Engineers, Software Engineers, and Biotechnologists. The Intermediate-Level Mechanical Engineer will work under the direct supervision of a senior engineer.

Additional responsibilities include:

* Design of mechanisms and components

* Selection of mechanical, pneumatic, electronic, and hydraulic components

* Utilize best engineering practices

* Creation of component fabrication and assembly documentation

* Collaborate with component fabricators to improve component manufacturability

* Validate concept and designs through solid modeling analysis and prototype development and testing

* Assist with creation of end-user documentation and training of end-users

* Support mechanical assembly activities by directing assembly technicians

* Assist with equipment checkout and participate in project deployment

Qualifications

* B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering

* High degree of mechanical aptitude, and a hands on approach to engineering

* Previous experience with 3D modeling software; SolidWorks preferred

Desired Skills/Experience

* Experience with FEA

* Experience with rapid prototyping techniques, including understanding of tradeoffs and limitations for practicality and manufacturability
