Your Opportunity

As an Engineer in Training (EIT), you will contribute to mechanical design activities for projects of varying size and complexity under the guidance of a Senior Mechanical Engineer and/or Designer. You will apply fundamental engineering principles to size, evaluate, select, and specify mechanical systems such as HVAC, plumbing, and other building or industrial systems for assigned projects.

You will perform a range of tasks, including conducting site or field investigations, preparing design calculations, supporting equipment and product research, and assisting with the development of design drawings and specifications.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare contract drawings, schematics, schedules, details, and sketches from conceptual design through to construction.
  • Assist in the design of building related mechanical systems including HVAC, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems using applicable codes, standards, and reference materials.
  • Review equipment selections, perform preliminary engineering calculations, and develop preliminary designs.
  • Produce aspects of mechanical design and drawings in REVIT, as well as in AutoCAD.
  • Follow production guidelines and project standards in the department drafting standards manual.
  • Work closely with the Mechanical Engineer and engineering group in recommending the best use of project tools to achieve project objectives, troubleshoot and resolve issues with the project tools.
  • Ensure the assurance of quality, consistency, and integrity of the electronic handover of deliverables.
  • Assist with periodic field reviews of construction and construction administration tasks (conduct shop drawing reviews, respond to RFIs, prepare documentation for site instructions or change requests).
  • Perform field surveys for drawing development, site reviews and as-built drawings.
  • Performs thorough quality control of construction documents.
  • Work as a contributing team member within a multi-discipline team.
  • Communicate with other team members and become familiar with Stantec standards to complete assignments and projects in a timely manner as required.
  • Understand and execute and/or direct work within Stantec's quality control guidelines.
  • Comply with Stantec's HSSE program, with a focus on safety in the field.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Work as a contributing team member within a multi-discipline team.
  • Ability to work with others on large complex projects.
  • Ability to work independently with engineering supervision on small projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to communicate effectively with colleagues and staff; a "team player" approach.
  • Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Good understanding of building mechanical system concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.
  • Knowledge or familiarity with National Building Code, National Plumbing Code, National Fire Codes, National Energy Code, and local amendments/supplements to these documents.
  • Knowledge or familiarity with LEED standards, ASHRAE, ASPE and NFPA would be considered an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
  • Self-motivated and self-starter with a strong work ethic.
  • Good time management skills and able to work in a fast-paced work environment. Able to work under and meet tight deadlines.
  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.
  • Strong desire to learn and work in a dynamic and fast-paced team environment.

Education and Experience
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering and a license, or plan to become licensed to practice in British Columbia.
  • A.Sc.T. Technical/Technologist Designation considered an asset.

Pay Range:
• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$67,100.00 - $93,900.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
