Job Description

Marketing Manager (Embarcadero Center)

Primary Purpose of Position: Manage the strategic marketing, promotions, events, customer service, and public relations efforts to enhance the value of Embarcadero Center and retail sales objectives.

Essential Functions:


  • Administer retail marketing plan by managing advertising, promotions, branding management, event planning and public relations while adhering to approved budget
  • Responsibility for brand management and corporate identity; analyzing potential strategic partnering relationships
  • Assist public relations agency with event planning, implementation and strategizing to maximize image and visibility.
  • Research, develop and maintain co-promotional marketing outreach opportunities and strategies with merchants, external business and community partners
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks and participating in professional societies
  • Develop, maintain and monitor merchant relations, communication efforts and outreach materials
  • Oversee logistics and operations management for various events including coordinating event partners/sponsors, drafting production notices, conducting meetings, coordinating with production and rental companies on staging, lighting, props and rental equipment, managing event and staff and event break-down
  • Management of content development for web site inclusive of writing, editing and updating as well as social media engagement and analysis
  • Coordinate and manage vendors and contractors to produce cost-effective, quality advertising, marketing materials
  • Management of writing, editing and distribution of marketing collateral to include newsletters, event notices and promotion briefs
  • Participate in creative conception and manage production of marketing materials; candidate should have familiarity with graphic design software
  • Manage coordination of necessary materials essential to collateral production
  • Proofread and review collateral
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the regional leasing team to act as a marketing resource
  • Maintain effective internal communication to ensure that all relevant company functions are kept informed of marketing objectives

Sponsorship and Development

  • Prospecting of potential sponsors
  • Support fulfillment of sponsor entitlements and requests for information
  • Develop and maintain relationships with potential sponsor and confirmed sponsor contacts

Event Production

  • Event planning, implementation, activation and measurement
  • Develop and maintain relationships with event sponsors and/or partners
  • Oversee on-site management and production
  • Manage and supervise the coordination of logistical production of events such as the Summer Concert Series, Total Wellness, Holidays events and other events as needed


  • Implement advertising program consistent with retail marketing plan objectives through analysis of most recent market demographic and psychographic surveys, concept development, media demographic and distribution research, advertising production, tenant participation and cooperation, and program evaluation
  • Proof composite campaign designs; create a wide range of different marketing materials
  • Provide general assistance in gathering information or materials
  • Prepare online and print marketing campaigns; monitor and report on effectiveness

Tenant Relations

  • Assist retail tenants in enhancing sales by analyzing sales reports to identify trends and recommend strategies; advise tenants on the use of advertising, promotions, merchandising and research; design and execute tactical marketing programs to drive traffic and increase purchase prices
  • Coordinate marketing campaigns for retail tenants
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with merchants; coordinate programs and promotions and market services to merchants
  • Build exposure of retailers through marketing programs
  • Conduct retail tenant meetings in collaboration with the Property Management team


  • Develop and maintain relationships with media professionals
  • Research opportunities for media exposure
  • Respond to general media inquiries and general public inquiries
  • Facilitate on-site media requests

Non-Essential Functions:

  • Attend industry events and educational programs
  • Join appropriate associations related to the retail, marketing and public relations industries
  • Administrative duties related to the project completion

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degreerequired with a concentration in Marketing, Communications, Business preferred.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years prior experience in advertising/marketing. Experience in the retail industry preferred
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Ability to work under deadlines
  • Ability to supervise and delegate as needed
  • Ability to interact with co-workers, tenants, vendors and agencies in an articulate, pleasant, courteous and business-like manner at all times
  • Very strong communication, organization, attention to detail and multi-task management skills
  • Effective, proactive problem solving skills
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills; working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Website management and social mediaexperiencerequired
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, evenings and weekends as required
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Physical Requirements:

  • Involves work of a general office nature usually performed sitting – such as operation of a computer.
  • Involves work of a general office nature usually standing such as operation of a fax and printer.
  • Involves work such as tours throughout the property portfolio usually performed by walking or climbing stairs.
