The Associate Director of Insights is expected to lead market research activities in support of one or more of Shire’s products within the Internal Medicine & Oncology Business Unit.  This role will have an in-depth understanding of the brand/therapeutic area and will consolidate findings from primary/secondary market research and competitive intelligence into insights and recommendations.  As a partner to the product team, this role will bring strategic thinking, partnership and support to the brand team.

This position is currently located in Lexington, MA, but will ultimately be based in Cambridge, MA (as early as mid-2018).

Primary Duties

The Associate Director of Insights is expected to lead market research activities in support of one or more of Shire’s products within the Internal Medicine & Oncology Business Unit.  This role will have an in-depth understanding of the brand/therapeutic area and will consolidate findings from primary/secondary market research and competitive intelligence into insights and recommendations.  As a partner to the brand team, this role will bring strategic thinking and support to the brand team.

The Internal Medicine & Oncology Business Unit offers the unique opportunity to work on rare and specialty products, as well as in-line and pre-launch products.

This position is currently located in Lexington, MA, but will ultimately be based in Cambridge, MA (as early as mid-2018).

Responsibilities

Market Research (70%)

Designs and implements U.S. market research projects and activities that result in high quality business insights, specifically:

  • Leads market research projects to support the brand strategy, including identification of market research needs, vendor selection, design, execution and interpretation of market research studies.
  • Acts as a strategic partner to the brand team, contributing to brand strategy and translating market research information into strategic recommendations and implications.
  • Proactively identifies insight needs/gaps and recommends approaches to address these needs.
  • Works closely with the brand team to generate a market research plan to meet brand needs, and demonstrates the ability to modify and prioritize the plan as needs change.
  • Collaborates with Global colleagues on in-line and LCM market research projects.

Competitive Intelligence (20%)

Leads U.S. competitive intelligence initiatives, specifically:

  • Interprets competitive intelligence and other relevant metrics for the Product Team, providing insights and recommendations.
  • Manages competitive intelligence efforts at key conferences.
  • Maintains an updated perspective on current and future competition, including identification and evaluation of respective competition.
  • Collaborates with U.S. Brand Team and Global colleagues to generate competitive landscape summary (e.g. for Situational Analysis).

Business Analytics (10%)

Partners with the Analytics Team to support ongoing business decisions and activities in the development/refinement of commercial strategy for the brand/molecule/therapeutic area.

  • For brand planning, brings key contributions to Situational Analysis by consolidating critical/ relevant insights from yearly information-generating activities.
  • Collaborates with analytics team to incorporate both insights and analytics into actionable recommendations to the brand team.
  • Helps build and pressure-test forecasting assumptions based on market research findings.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • BachelorDegree or equivalent in Health Sciences or related discipline / Business Administration.
  • MBA/Pharm.D is an asset
  • Recommended 7+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry; 5+ years of experience in market research
