Exide is looking for a talented MES Engineer responsible for directing the activities to specify, design, develop, document, test and implement Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) solutions for Exide’s North American battery manufacturing operations based in the corporate headquarters, Milton, GA. The MES application will need to provide a variety of functions with an initial focus on Performance Analysis, Quality Management, Product Tracking & Genealogy and Data Collection/Acquisition. While concentrated within the factory, you will also need to work across multiple functional areas, including engineering, finance, procurement, manufacturing, information systems & logistics to drive successful MES implementation. This position will be supported by a network of Continuous Improvement and Quality peers at the corporate level and plants. If MES is your thing – this is your job.


  • Leading role with development, customization, and support of our company's MES system.

  • Execute complex projects involving the development and implementation of MES solutions

  • Define MES solution architectures and develops detailed design specifications

  • Ability to write tag and PLC data to backend database is a must have skill.

  • Ability to generate MES based reporting and dashboards is a must have skill.

  • Must demonstrate initiative and show ability to solve problems creatively.

  • Define functional requirements through stakeholder interviews, documentation analysis and Work Flow Process Mapping (Value Stream Maps).

  • Provide expert knowledge and experience to estimate the technical effort required to implement complex MES solutions.

  • Be the organization’s MES subject matter expert.

  • Responsible for technical deliverables during the entire lifecycle of MES solution development projects Onsite support for all start-ups at internal manufacturing facilities.

  • Proactively engage with vendors in order to define the overall technical approach for MES solutions. Engage with internal customers to understand plant centric requirements.

  • Maintain technical skills and knowledge continuously updating them.

  • Effectively apply Project Management methodology and embrace project standards.

  • Proactively report on project progress against scope, schedule, cost and performance.

  • Assist existing project sponsors in problem resolution and help define future opportunities. Provide support to existing solutions.

  • Conducts a variety of organizational studies, investigations and operational studies; recommends modifications to policies and procedures as appropriate.


  • BS / MSdegree in in Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, ElectricalEngineering, Computer Integrated Manufacturing Technology or related technical discipline.

  • Minimum 3years work experience on factory MES, automation and process control systems in a manufacturing environment.

  • Must be willing and able to travel to the Exide facilities approximately 50%.

Desired Characteristics

  • Excellent understanding of key manufacturing processes in order to develop and execute the MES strategies

  • Must have an understanding of transactions to and from MES with systems such as ERP and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)

  • Experience in working in a large, global company helpful.

  • Ability to diagnose and resolve on-site and remote application related computing problems.

  • Strong computer skills with ability to quickly learn new software/applications.

  • Project management – initiating, planning, executing project work.

  • Experience developing user requirements and functional specifications for MES solutions

  • Quality Systems integration experience.

  • Deployment experience with plant floor/Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) solutions preferred. Knowledge of Ignition application from Inductive Automation is a big plus.
