This position requires a goal-oriented tooling/process engineer capable of working independently and as a team to lead the Manufacturing Engineering & Technology (MET) Gage CCT (Core Competency Team). Responsibilities include leading Tenneco’s North America Clean Air division in gage standardization, reviewing customer specifications / prints, supplier development, as well as forecasting gaging needs to our suppliers. In addition, this position will coordinate Design for Manufacturing meetings between engineering, manufacturing and MET as well as work with vendors to ensure compliance with the Tenneco gage standard.   Daily activities include product design reviews, gage design reviews, development with suppliers and most importantly the coordination or launch into the manufacturing facility. Projects will include cost reduction strategies, design and process standardization, tooling standardization, etc.


Required Skills:

  • Knowledge and practical application of GD&T
  • Familiarity with the AIAG Measurement System Analysis
  • Experience working with equipment and tooling suppliers.  Preparation of SOW’s, RFQ’s, conducting gage correlations, gage R&R’s, runoff’s and installation
  • Knowledge and understanding of Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing and Design for Manufacturability
  • Proficiency with PC applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and flow charting software
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems and opportunities, develop plans and successfully implement solutions
  • Manufacturing process development, fixture design, tooling/gage design, and equipment design
  • Self-motivated, ability to effectively prepare and deliver technical reports and presentations, ability to establish and maintain budgets, Project management skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of welding, pressure decay leak testing and manufacturing processes
  • Assembly, welding and manufacturing cell and tooling design experience
  • Ability to make effective presentations to a wide variety of audiences including senior managers, customers and employee groups
  • Knowledge of CAD and computer based engineering tools a plus (such as SolidWorks and Minitab)
  • Knowledge of CMM’s and non-contact gaging a plus
  • Hands on knowledge of SAP a plus
  • Hands on technical knowledge of exhaust aftertreatment systems, mufflers and pipe bending is a plus
  • Ability to travel in support of job function (plants, customers, suppliers, etc.) Some International travel required

Required Experience

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8 years of related manufacturing engineering experience
  • Bachelor’s degree (or Journeyman Toolmaker with Associate degree) in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering
