Job Description:

The person filling this position will lead manufacturing related activities on programs for space weather applications. The type of hardware produced at this Harris location is complex, containing circuit card assemblies (CCAs), cable harnesses, and higher level electronic, as well as optical, cooler, and motor assemblies.

Responsibilities include:

  • Interface with design engineers to ensure hardware producibility by developing build strategies
  • Plan and request manpower/equipment/process resources
  • Generate assembly documentation and direct support personnel in the day-to-day execution of manufacturing tasks
  • Assist with high visibility manufacturing efforts with formal cost and scheduleresponsibilities and some direct customer interface
  • Support process improvement initiatives of technical and operational natures
  • Design and develop manufacturing tools, fixtures, and strategies
  • Plan and support the build and modification of mechanical and electronics systems including procurement support, assembly method/work instruction generation, tooling design support, material/process development, facilities/equipment planning, and resolution of manufacturing, quality, and reliability issues
  • Estimate manufacturing costs, determine time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements for new or existing product lines
  • Support the root cause and corrective action process
  • Knowledgeable in NASA 8739 solder standards, connector and wire harness standards, conformal coat requirements and PWB design architecture
  • Develop solder profiles for PWB and CCA rework that include space qualified components that include leaded through hole as well as surface mounted


  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, or aerospace engineering or engineeringtechnology with 6 plus years of industry experience or equivalent.

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 year of hands-on experience with high vacuum test equipment, particularly cables, and knowledge of CCA assembly processes
  • Ability to work ITAR or EAR projects
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact across multiple locations with a cross-functional team consisting of skill sets in engineering, operations, supply chain and quality assurance
  • Ability to work with limited direction or supervision in an environment that can become demanding and stressful
  • Knowledge of cleanroom protocols and proper handling of spaceflight hardware
  • Demonstrated ability to find root cause of manufacturing process problems, workmanship defects, mechanical test failures, etc. is preferred
  • Willingness to travel
