General Summary of Position: The Industrial Engineer/Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for working with the Manufacturing Engineering Department to develop and maintain systems needed to drive continuous improvement in areas of cost, quality, safety, lead time, and use of working capital.

Duties and Responsibilities: The following reflect the essential functions for this position but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned based upon changing business conditions.

• Evaluate tools and equipment options that will improve productivity and eliminate hazards

• Work with manufacturing engineering to gain approval for investments in machinery and equipment that will improve manufacturing/assembly operations

• Complete the planning/estimating of new manufacturing processes and operations

• Implement lean manufacturing principles such as visual controls, pull inventory systems, workplace organization, material flow routes, material delivery methods (kitting, kanban, milk routes, etc.)

• Monitor and correct safety / ergonomic issues

• Develop and organize leanevents

• Support the WOW (War On Waste) program and the WOW Team

• Support the NPI (New Product Introduction) process; evaluating new projects for layout optimization, opportunities for automaton, material delivery and presentation, material flow and operator work envelopes

• Develop standard work for existing and new processes

• Perform workstation scrolls to optimize the operator envelope and density

• Drive continuous improvement and eliminate waste in all manufacturing facilities

• Aid in work station load balancing for all manufacturing areas

• Communicate with and assist cross-functional teams (engineering, materials, purchasing, sales, etcetera) to resolve issues


• Bachelor’s degree in IndustrialEngineering / Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering or related field; minimum of five years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience

• Experience with working a low-volume/high variation manufacturing operation

• Knowledge of material flow and developing material routes

• Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines

• Possess project management skills necessary to start, implement, and bring projects to closure on time and within budget

• Self-motivated with the ability to stay on task

• Innovative team player

• Intermediate computer skills are required

• Working knowledge of computer aided design systems (SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred)

• Experience in a lean manufacturing environment or lean manufacturing training

• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

• Sound judgment with the ability to make timely, and sometimes difficult, decisions

• Versatile, flexible, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities

• Able to:

o Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

o Understand safety requirements and cautions

• Strong:

o Communication skills, verbal and written o Interpersonal skills o Organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
