Position Overview

As the leader of the Northeast Region Recruitment team, the Managing Director, Recruitment, Northeast Region leads a geographically remote team that generates a pipeline of qualified and diverse 18-25 year old applicants who are successfully admitted to City Year.

As a strong leader, skilled relationship manager, and strategic talent acquisition professional, you will address the evolving needs of recruitment in a local, regional, and national context, ensure regional team and site needs are met while achieving overall regional goals, and drive continual improvement of talent acquisition strategies.

You will lead a team of multiple direct and indirect reports, and be an effective coach and talent developer for team members. As an engaging communicator and organized planner, you will coordinate and deliver regular team meetings and reports to ensure the team remains connected across geographies.

You are a strategic partner with Northeast Regional site leadership and will identify and implement opportunities to plan and collaborate, facilitate solutions to challenges of contending priorities, and share regular updates on progress and strategy development.

This rolereports to the Vice President, RegionalRecruitment Operations and serves as a leader within the CityYearRecruitment andAdmissions Department.

Job Description

Lead and Develop a Team of Recruitment Professionals:

  • Identify, hire, train, support, and lead a team of recruitment professionals who will implement recruitment efforts and will be held responsible for prospect generation, engagement, and conversion strategies.
  • Responsible for overall management of team, including communication of job expectations and planning, monitoring, and evaluating individual and team performance.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members by identifying and encouraging opportunities for growth.
  • Participate in recurring video conference calls with regional team to maintain connections and partnership.

Develop, Implement, and Monitor Strategic Recruitment Plan:

  • Support and implement a program to identify and recruit a diverse class of potential young leaders ages 18-25 to participate in City Year while achieving monthly, quarterly, and annual recruitment goals.
  • Attend high-level partnership meetings, events, and calls.
  • Develop key influencer and champion engagement strategy.

Team Operations:

  • Establish strategic goals by crafting pertinent business, financial, service, and operations information; identify and evaluate trends and options; choose a course of action; define objectives; evaluate outcomes.
  • Accomplish financial objectives by forecasting requirements, preparing an annual budget, reviewing expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.

Develop Strong Internal Relationships:

  • Build and be an excellent partner with HQ, and regional site leadership, including those who lead service, to address the evolving needs of Recruitment and Admissions in a regional context, facilitate solutions to challenges of contending priorities, and ensure that individual site needs are met while achieving overall regional goals.
  • Advise the direction of regional sites based on each site’s operating plan and Long Term Impact growth plan, providing Recruitment and Admissions perspective as appropriate.

Performance Analysis and Strategy:

  • Regularly compare team performance against goals and against other regional and national averages.
  • Provide reporting for grants, Executive Directors, and HQ leadership. Consistently use data as a management tool.

Department Leadership:

  • In partnership with other members of the national Recruitment and Admissions Department, drive continual improvement of City Year talent acquisition strategies.
  • Participate in national recruitment meetings and events as applicable.

Basic Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent.
  • 3-5 Years supervising multiple direct reports.
  • Real passion for City Year’s mission and core values.
  • Talent acquisition strategy development and goal setting.
  • Crafting and running budgets.
  • Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills.
  • Remote management skills.
  • Positive relationship builder.
  • Ability to travel frequently within the region and to City Year Headquarters in Boston.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Management, Education, Nonprofit Administration, or Public Policy
  • Sales, corporate, or academic recruiting environment experience.
  • Comfortable reporting to an off-site manager and regularly collaborating with remote colleagues.
