The KIPP regions in Texas have joined forces to create KIPP Texas Public Schools in order to accelerate the increase of our academic outcomes and the numbers of students we are educating. This unified organization allows us to more effectively leverage the talent, resources, instructional expertise, financial strength, and advocacy in the public charter school movement, in order to have an even larger impact with educationally underserved communities across our state. In the first year of KIPP Texas Public Schools, we will be educating over 27,700 students in 52 schools, placing the district among the top 50 largest in the state. We intend to grow to more than 100,000 students across Texas, proving what is possible for our students, our communities, and our state.


OVERVIEW


KIPP Texas - San Antonio is seeking a strategic and experienced Managing Director of Operations (MD of Ops) to manage the day-to-day school operations, support and scale growth, drive efficiencies and standards, and partner with schools so they can better focus on teaching and learning. This senior leader reports to the KIPP Texas Chief Operating Officer (COO), is a member of the KIPP Texas - San Antonio Superintendent's cabinet team and collaborates with other MD of Operations across the state. In addition to being a strategic thought partner, the MD of Ops is responsible for operational execution at all 7+ schools in San Antonio, implementing the newly designed operation's organization structure, and managing a multi-million dollar operating budget. The MD of Ops is also responsible for anticipating and maintaining a vision for the future operational needs and for recommending strategies, priorities, and projects that will best achieve KIPP Texas's strategic goals and objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • LeadershipCollaborate with the COO and KIPP Texas operations leadership team to provide input and strategic thinking into the KIPP Texas operations organization structure, direction, and vision
  • Partner with the KIPP Texas operations leadership team to develop and execute on the integration of KIPP Texas
  • Lead on the operations leadership talent and development plan to support KIPP Texas - San Antonio's growth and succession plansThis includes working with COO and the KIPP Texas Statewide operations leadership (Facilities, Construction, Real Estate, Procurement, Student Recruitment and Enrollment, Compliance, Transportation, Child Nutrition, and Information Technology) to build out the operational support structures for KIPP Texas - San Antonio
  • Through impact and influence, work closely with the Regional Superintendent, Heads of Schools, School Leaders, and school-based operations leaders to manage the largest region in KIPP Texas


  • Operations Oversight and PerformanceManage the day-to-day responsibilities of the San Antonio school operations function
  • Identify, develop, and implement operational process improvements and policies which standardize and drive efficient and compliant:School operations; school safety, arrival and dismissal, event scheduling, student enrollment and recruitment, space management, teacher duty schedules, testing coordination, etc.
  • Build a community of school operations leaders and the support structure for 7+ schools in San Antonio, providing them with leadership training, professional development opportunities, sharing of best practices, team building, standard policies, procedures, and best practices
  • Develop standard KPIs and accountability systems to drive performance and measure success for school operations and student recruitment
  • Lead and introduce new technologies which improve service, lowers costs, and drives efficiencies across school operational functions
  • Support the statewide Construction and Facilities teams on executing KIPP Texas - San Antonio's growth plan by the opening of new schools and campuses on time and on budget


  • Financial Oversight and PerformanceDevelop and oversee the San Antonio school operations budget
  • Collaborate with Finance on reporting requirements needed to make decisions and understand where resources are being spent against the plan
  • Assess and identify the most cost-effective investment of operational resources toward systems, staffing, daily operations, and/or product purchases. Recommend additional savings by making strategic choices, prioritizing needs, consolidating contracts, and driving efficiencies
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships and manage contract and service agreements
  • Ensure school operations resources are being managed in a fiscally responsible and compliant manner


  • Staff ManagementGrow, develop, manage, and oversee a regional team that supports school-based operational leaders across KIPP Texas - San Antonio
  • Establish and collaborate with direct reports to establish department goals and objectives which align to the KIPP Texas operation's goals
  • Manages annual personnel performance appraisal process and completion


QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:

  • 5+ years of professional work experience in a senior operations leadership role
  • Bachelor's degree a must. Graduate degree preferred with a strong preference for candidates with a masters in business or public policy (MBA, MPP/MPA)
  • Experience in public education or non-profit a strong plus
  • Experience in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and fast-growing organization a strong plus
  • Must have demonstrated experience in building best in class systems, processes, and standards, using data and KPIs to drive accountability and results, being resourceful and strategic so as to save costs and provide better service, and leading change
  • Must have demonstrated experience in leading, motivating, growing, and developing high performing teams which deliver results
  • Must be able to adopt new technology quickly and be very proficient with Microsoft and other productivity tools (BlueJeans, Slack, Google Drive)
